Testing Objectives
This test was designed to provide the teacher of 9th grade World History with a general
understanding of how his/her students score on a variety of skills and questions. Each question or
set of questions measures 5 different areas.
The breakdown of question and target objectives are listed below:
1. Reading Comprehension
Questions 1-4.
Students must read the passage and answer vocabulary, inference, and main idea
questions to check for their understanding and reading skills.
2. Chronological Thinking Skills
Question 5
This question assesses the students ability to think chronologically by ordering important
World History events from earliest to latest.
3. Government Identification
Questions 6-10
Students are asked to identify and match the correct definition to the correct term.
4. Affective
Question 11
This section indicates the students personal interests in culture and history. By the
student response, the teacher will learn something about their personal lives which could
help challenge a student as the teacher teaches.
5. Inference
Question 12
In this question, students are asked to examine a primary document without the title/ (The
Declaration of Independence). They are asked to use prior knowledge and assess what
ideals/movement inspired this piece of writing.
6. Map Skills
Question 13-15
This question measures how students can use a read a map, map key, and scale. They will
be asked 3 questions.
7. Higher Order Thinking Skills:

This question indicates the students ability to think critically and plan in time of
emergency.

Read the passage below and answer questions 1-4 that follow.
On August 6th, 1945 the world's first atom bomb was dropped on the Japanese city of
Hiroshima. The Atom bomb was dropped by an American B-29 bomber. The bomb dropped on
Nagasaki on August 9th 1945 was called Fat Man. It was an implosion-type fission bomb that
used plutonium. The atom bomb was described by a Japanese journalist as a glaring pink light in
the sky that burned peoples eyes out. Anyone within a mile of the explosion from the atom
bomb became a bundle of smoking black charcoal within seconds.
About 90,000-140,000 people were killed. Those who were still alive writhed in agony from
their burns. The atom bomb obliterated more than 4 square miles and there was very heavy
damage outside that area. Three days later the USA dropped another atom bomb on Nagasaki.
About 60,000-80,000 people were killed by this atom bomb. On August 14 Japan surrendered
and World War II was finally over.
