This document summarizes a presentation on driven piles that was part of a plenary session held on September 19, 2014 with the theme of driven piles. The presentation was given by P.S. Bansod from Afcons and discussed a project to construct marine facilities for a standby jetty at Dahej LNG Terminal. The project involved installing over 320 steel piles of varying diameters to support a 4.2m wide approach trestle, a 40m wide unloading platform, mooring and berthing dolphins, and a tug berth. Afcons conducted detailed geotechnical investigations with 12 boreholes to inform the foundation design, and chosen driven steel piles as the foundation system due to previous experience and a

Abstract: Construction of Marine Facilities for Standby Jetty at Dahej LNG Terminal M/s. Petronet LNG Limited (PLL) had awarded the work of construction of marine facilities for standby jetty at Dahej LNG Terminal to Dahej Standby Jetty Project Undertaking (DJPU) a Joint Venture between AFCONS Infrastructure Limited and Gunanesa Pte., in November 2010. AFCONS successfully completed this project by March 2014. The project consisted of construction of: (1) 4.2m wide x 2400m long approach trestle founded on 320 nos. Of 914mm, 1168mm, 1270mm & 1320mm driven steel piles (2) 40.0m wide x 42.0m long unloading platform founded on 1320mm 31 numbers driven steel piles (3) 13.0m wide x 10.0m long mooring dolphins 8 Nos. founded on 1168mm x 14 numbers driven steel piles each (4) 13.0m wide x 10.0m long berthing dolphins 4 nos. founded on 1168mm x 16 nos. Piles each (5) Tug Berth 2 nos. Founded on 914mm 3 nos. Piles In order to have detailed site specific geotechnical information AFCONS conducted detailed geotechnical investigation. This investigation consisted of 12 nos. Boreholes varying in depth from 30m to 50m below sea bed level. Marine boreholes were drilled using jack-up barge. In view of previous experience and tight construction schedule it was decided to provide driven steel piles as foundation system to support various structures.
