Many neurotransmitters, or chemicals, that our bodies produce can obscure our learning and memory.

A few
examples of this would be dopamine, serotonin, and acetylcholine.

Dopamine for example is a chemical in the brain involved in mediating reward, motivation, and learning through
reinforcement (MNT, 2010). Every day we have to make choices and when the level of dopamine is higher our
decisions tend to be more for the here and now rather than focusing on the long term effects of our choices.
Dopamine can also increase based off our anticipation of reward, sight, sounds even smell, which increase our
impulse responses (MNT, 2010). Ultimately when dopamine is released during learning it creates a memory of the
learned task (Marr, E., 2013). Ways to increase dopamine levels in the brain is through exercise, healthy eating and
even checking something off our to-do lists (Marr, E., 2013).
