The Revolution Starts With Words
This reading was mainly about how in our society we need to teach kids how to be
leaders. That education today mostly focuses on teaching students information that will get them
jobs. The passage argues how the first freshman writing class is where leadership skills should
start to grow. The reading discusses how the class should teach the students to be creative, risktolerant, and leadership focused. Reflection also mentioned as a key skill in leadership. Henry
near the end argues that writing classes shouldnt just be teaching writing skills and language,
that it should be a place of inquiry. Lastly he tells the reader that the two skills we need in our
future leaders are reflection and eloquence. I believe the intended audience is directed toward the
teachers that teach college freshman writing classes, but more importantly the students sitting in
that class.
