TWS 9 Learning Environment

Classroom Management:

An activity I will implement is morning meeting. I will implement this, because it will give the
students a voice in the classroom and it will get any tensions cleared before the day is started. It
will also help start the day on a positive note. As the students learn how morning meeting
works, I will then release the responsibility over to them to conduct morning meetings until
every student has done one. I will do this under the assumption that I will be in a 5th or 6th grade
classroom.

Depending upon the severity of the action:
o First offense: Warning
o Second offense: Write possible solutions for the problem
o Third offense: Conference with student
o Fourth offense: Write an action plan and call parents
o Fifth offense: Conference with parents and teacher
I will encourage students behavior by first displaying the behavior that I want my students to. If
students are doing the right thing, I will recognize them by thanking them for doing the right
thing and encouraging others to do the right thing.

Non-Instructional Routines and Procedures: (Hypothetical 6th Grade class)

I will begin class each day with questions or a review of the previous lesson or nights
homework. I will designate a different student each week that will be responsible for writing the
names of students who are absent names on the board. For lunch, students will line up in the
classroom and dismiss themselves to the classroom as I follow.
Students will be in groups daily, in which they will have folders where they will put their
homework and other assignments that are due. Items that they need will be in their folders
before they come into the classroom and if not I will chose a student to distribute items quickly.
I will assign student helpers weekly or bi-weekly, depending on what the assignment is. Each
student will have a chance to have a duty each week.
I will have pencil sharpeners set up in the classroom where students will be able to sharpen
their pencil freely without interrupting class time. I will also have the sharpeners that makes
little noise to prevent interruptions. I will also have pre sharpened pencils for students to use if
needed. Students will use the bathroom if needed before class starts and in emergency cases
only will they be allowed to go during instruction. Students will be giving a five minute warning
before class is over with to get situated in order to transition to the next class or lunch.
During emergency situations, I will make sure students are quiet and are aware of all
precautions and procedures in advance. I will make sure students get to a safe place as quickly

as possible and make sure they follow directions. Students will also remain silent in order to
here directions clearly and listen for their name to be called.
