ADDIE Model
This instructional plan template was based on
the ADDIE Model
A- Analysis
D- Design
D- Develop
I- Implementation
E- Evaluate

Instructional Plan Template | Slide 2

Needs Assessment

The needs of the students needed to be Analyzed in following the

ADDIE model

The problem is that The Northwest Valley Community College

lacked a literature program

The courses available are a range of business courses and

numerically driven courses. There are more courses that people
would like to take while in college

Instructional Plan Template | Slide 3

Needs Assessment

What is available is very specific courses geared toward a certain

type of learner

The courses should be more varied to help more people

The recommendation would be to incorporate more art based and

literature based courses to appease the masses

What should be available are more courses that gear toward the
arts more than things that are geared toward math or business

Instructional Plan Template | Slide 4

Instructional Goal
Learners should be able to accurately recall and take tests based on
the information taught in this course.
In addition to recalling and using the information they should be able
to reiterate the information learned to other classmates in the form of
presentations
In doing this the instructor can see how the information was received
and what they need to change in the class based on the way the
students performed after the fact

Instructional Plan Template | Slide 5

Performance-Based Objectives
Two PBOs following ABCD
A audience
the audience must be engaged and kept interested
material should be presented in a way that the audience
can absorb the information
B behavior
students should be able to take tests and answer
questions about the material taught in class
ideally there will be limited questions based on what
students are taught, if there are they will be dealt with and
answered in a timely manner
Instructional Plan Template | Slide 6

Performance-Based Objectives
Two PBOs following ABCD continued
C conditions
text books and reading assignments will be given to give
students a better idea of what they need to learn
there will also be visual examples during class such as
black board examples and things on PowerPoint
D degree of accomplishment
learners should absorb information presented in the course
by the end of the course
test scores should reflect the absorption with scores of my
than 70%.

Summative Assessment and Learning

Outcomes
Learning will be evaluated based on classroom performance including
but not limited to
- test scores should be above average
- class feedback should be positive
- the amount of extra help needed from students should be
minimal
- questions asked during class should be minimal showing
comprehension
- students should be excited to learn
- attendance should be high
- the drop out rate for class should be low

Learner Characteristics
An entry level college level English Literature class at a community
college
The prerequisite for this class would be a high school level or GED level
literature class
The class would be varied in cultural backgrounds and educational
motivations
The class has varied learning styles and will be taught the material in the
most basic way possible to ensure maximum comprehension
Instructional Plan Template | Slide 9

Learner Characteristics continued

Based on the needs of the students a course can be designed

The instructional plan would include a series of introductory exercises to

get the class comfortable with one another
There would also be a sheet passed around in the first week asking
students what their favorite pieces of literature are, and their highest
level of English literature classes achieved (helping to gauge where they
each stand)
Classes will be split into teams periodically to get them to have more fun
with the work and to have extra people to help them comprehend

The English Literature 101 course will be instructor led
Online courses will be offered too
The course will be constructed like the other courses at
Northwest Valley Community College

The classroom will be casual and the teaching style will be laid

Plan for Implementation

The next phase of ADDIE goes into affect- Implementation

There will be classes on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday every

week for one hour per class
The course will last an entire semester where final grades will be
given at the conclusion of each semester
A lesson plan will need put into place
Instructors will need an idea of what they need to do to teach the
course
Students will need prerequisites to even enter the course
Instructional Plan Template | Slide 15

Formative Assessment
Describe five formative assessment strategies that could be
incorporated into the implementation of your instructional
plan
1.
2.
3.
4.
5.

Question and answer sessions

Quizzes
Group work
Story writing
Final presentation

Instructional Plan Template | Slide 16

Evaluation Strategies
During the evaluation process instructors can see what
works and what does not work with the instructional plan
Surveys will be conducted at the beginning of class
Based on the surveys the instructor can gage the skill set
of the class

Test scores and presentation scores can also show how

much was absorbed
Instructional Plan Template | Slide 17

Outcome Review
There will be a rubric by which test scores and
assignment scores will be measured
Performance based objectives will show student
progress
Scoring guides will show what needs achieved
and how well students did on assignments
Instructional Plan Template | Slide 18

Recommendations
If the students do well and their statistics are promising,
the course can continue in further semesters
The scores of tests, attendance numbers, rate of class
comprehension, and methods they seemed to enjoy can be
used for future classes
The beginning of the class and end of the class surveys
can show the progress
