Lesson Three Day Three

Daily topic: Topic: Volcanoes


Subject: Math (Charts & Statistics)
Approximate time needed:
1. One 50 minute class period
Objectives:
1. The student will be able to compare and contrast different charts on statistics about volcanoes.
2. The students will be able to identify how numbers fluctuate in different categories of statistics.
3. Students should will be competent at identifying data and what it means.
Prerequisite skills:
1. Students should have a basic knowledge of volcanoes.
2. Students should know how to read different data charts and graphs.
3. Students should be familiar with the use of the internet, PowerPoint and Microsoft word.
Procedures:
1. The teacher will ask the students what kind of interesting facts they already know about volcanoes.
2. The teacher will then ask students to name different types of graphs and charts.
3. The teacher will inform students that they will be working with data and statistics involving volcanoes.
4. Students will view a Powerpoint presentation on the statistics of Volcanoes
5. Technology activity: after viewing the PowerPoint, the students will use the different charts and graphs
on the power point to answer questions about the stats of volcanoes. All the answers will be made in the
form a graph or chart using Microsoft word.
a. The students will be working in groups of 3 or 4
6. Once the entire class is finished answering the questions they print out their charts and graphs and show
the class what types of charts and graphs they used to answer the questions.
Materials needed:
1. Computers with internet access
2. Computers with PowerPoin and Microsoft Word.
3. Printer and printing paper
