Persuasive Speech: Audience Assessment
Specific Goal: My audience will recognize they need to be more aware of what kinds
of deodorant they are using and try to look out for signs of hidradenitis.
Type of Claim: This is a claim of fact
Ethos:

Primary Ethos:
a) Competence: In 2011 I was diagnosed with hidradenitis and I
understand the consequences of it.
b) Fairness: I will offer up statistics of the reality of the disease and make
a point that this does not happen to everyone.
Secondary Ethos: I will cite three references.

Audience Assessment: Most of my audience members will probably have an attitude

toward my proposition that is uninformed.
Adaptation to Audience Attitude:
a. Common ground: I will explain my story in personal detail so that my audience
might understand my perspective and the researchers perspective.
b. Latitude of acceptance: I think my audience wants to remain healthy and they
want to be more aware on how they might be able to prevent this happening to
them.
Baby Steps: Because of my personal experience my audience will hear in simple terms
what they need to do to prevent this.
Pattern of Organization:

problem-solution
