Tutorial 16 : Introduction to Block Mesher

Case description:
mesh a block

Files required:
block.igs

Step 1: Import surfaces Stitch faces

File Import IGES File


open block.igs
use Ctrl + left mouse to rotate the model
GeometryGeometry ToolsStitch Faces
pick face 4,5,6
click Apply

Step 2: Create straight block

FEMElement and MeshBlock Mesher


select Type: Single Block
click WirGeo render button
activate P1
pick the nearest bottom corner of the block in the graphics window
P2 will be automatically activated after picking P1

pick the other 7 corners corresponding to P2-P8


enter Num of Element (I J K)=18 12 3
click Create (the BlockM Computation Window will pop up)
(do NOT click Accept)

note: The figure in the BlockM Computation Window can be rotated using Ctrl + left mouse, and
the main window will be simultaneously updated. The Computation model can also be panned
and zoomed, but these operations will not effect the main window.

Step 3: Project Edges

select Project at the top of the BlockM Interface


select Line
select node1 in the BlockM Computation Window
click the red node of line I
then, a line will be highlighted in the graphics viewport,click the corresponding edge in the
graphics viewport
click project
select node1 again
click the red node of line J
then, click the corresponding edge in the graphics viewport

select node1
click the red node of line K
click the corresponding edge
click project
select node2,node3,node4 respectively,do edges projection Reference to the above steps

Step 4: Project surfaces

select Surface
click EdgGeo render button
click node1 in the BlockM Computation Window
pick the red node of line I and the red node of line J
then, a face will be highlighted in the graphics viewport,click the corresponding surface in
the graphics viewport
click project
click node1 again
pick the red node of line I and the red node of line K
click the corresponding surface,and click project
click node1
pick the red node of line J and the red node of line K
click the corresponding surface,and click project
select node2,do the surfaces projection Reference to the above steps

Step 5: Accept the mesh

click EdgGeo render button
