TWS 6

The table below shows the data of my class for my showcase lesson, lesson 5, for their pre,
during, and post assessment scores. For the pre assessment I gave the students 4 sentences and
asked them to find the verb in each sentence, the during assessment was questions being asked
on the PowerPoint and explanations of the examples that were also given, and the post
assessment was a worksheet that had 10 questions where the students have to identify the
verb. The table also has a column that shows students gain, loss, or stayed the same during the
duration of this lesson. This was a new concept being introduced to students but some of them
had prior knowledge as to what verbs were which is why I have come to the conclusion that
they performed better on the formal post assessment than other students and gained more
factual knowledge. For the pre assessment I was basing this off of student interaction and
accuracy on the answers given. 75% of the students mastered the pre assessment thus getting
full credit for the work they did. For the during assessment only 2 students did not participate
when asked about the questions and scenarios given in the PowerPoint, and these two students
were two of the lowest scoring students on the post assessment. The class average for this
lesson on their post assessment was 68.5% correct out of the possible 100%.

For my high scoring student, which is student number 17. The scores are as followed:
-

Pre-assessment: 2/3 of the questions on the board were answered correctly

During assessment: The student actively participated in answering questions during
the PowerPoint that were presented on the specific slides.
Post-assessment: Student scored a 90 out of the possible 100 points

This student is very active in class and is always egger to learn. As I started this lesson this
student was very interested in what was being taught and seemed to have a real interest in the
book and the PowerPoint. This student always preforms very well in all assignments given in
class and does a great job of completing work in a very timely manner and always succeeds in
what she does in class and out of class.

For my medium scoring student, which is student number 15. The scores are as followed:
-

Pre-assessment: 2/3 of the questions on the board were answered correctly

During assessment: Student did participate in the questions that were asked during
the PowerPoint on the specific slides
Post assessment: Student scored a 60 out of the possible 100 points

This student is very active in class and is always trying their hardest on all assignments that are
given to them. This student does have a speech impediment, but this doesnt affect the gain or
loss of knowledge on this lesson since no verbal assessment was taken. I think that this student
does gain knowledge when being presented with new information, but has a hard time in how
he displays it in formal assessments and group work. He is the type of student who kind of falls
to the way side during instructions because even though he does try his hardest on all
assignments given to them, turning things in on time and accurately is something this student
struggles with.

For my low scoring student, which is student number 19. The scores are as followed:
-

Pre-assessment: 1/3 of the questions on the board were answered correctly

During assessment: Student did not participate in the questions that were asked
during the PowerPoint
Post assessment: Student scored a 20 out of the 100 possible points

For this student, the situation was a little different in the developmental area. This student was
born with a cleft pallet and is very behind developmentally. I think that it is best to know
students backgrounds because as a teacher, you can better instruct students in a new objective.
As I was teaching this lesson I should have known to lower my instructional level a little to help
benefit this student with my lesson objective. Even though this student scored very low, one of
the lowest in the class, he still was trying his hardest as I could see during the lesson. I think
that after looking at this post assessment, I should have tried harder as a teacher to let Mrs.
Cobb know so she can better instruct him in small groups with other students who might have
scored this low. It is important to understand the learning styles of these students so that as a
teacher I would better my teaching methods in order to benefit the student. In every classroom
there are so many diverse learners, it is important to know this so your students can succeed in
everything they do both inside and outside of the classroom. As for Mrs. Cobbs class, it was
important to know about the 2 students with severe impairments, one mentally and one
physically. This helped me in my instructional methods to benefit both the majority of the class
and those students who might have needed special attention.
