Research Question: How do ultrasounds effect medical patients?
Working Thesis Statement: Ultrasounds effect medical patients because they determine
numerous medical problems.
Refined Thesis Statement: Ultrasounds have a major effect of medical patients.

This article defines the use of cranial ultrasounds. Cranial ultrasounds are most
commonly used to examine complications of a premature births in babies. This type of
ultrasound can be used on babies that are younger than 18 months or on adults that recently had
brain surgery. This helps because babys skulls are not fully grown together. Cranial ultrasounds
are used to detect problems in the brain or ventricles. For babies, it is used to look for growths in
or around the brain, evaluate an enlarged head, or bleeding of the brain. There are not any risks
that known as a result of a cranial ultrasound. This article is useful for this research because it
lists another reason why ultrasounds majorly effect medical patients.

Musculoskeletal ultrasound is very effective for athletes. This type of ultrasound is more
beneficial than a MRI. It targets painful areas of the body such as: tendon tears, muscle tears, soft
tissue tumors, and other problems. For the patient it is painless. Ultrasounds are used to detect
changes in size, appearance, and organs. This is useful for research because recognizes that
everyone, even athletes, can benefit from ultrasounds.

In this article, Sternlof explains the use of abdominal ultrasounds. They are not just for
fetal monitoring, they are also used to diagnose any abdominal problems. Abdominal ultrasounds
help many patients that experience horrible car accidents, falls, injured organs, kidney disease,
gallstones, pancreatic disease, and abdominal aortic aneurysms. This type of ultrasound can
detect any kind of mass. If a patient were to get an aortic aneurysm, it would be quickly
identified and monitored by an ultrasound. This article is useful for research because it explains
the different uses for abdominal ultrasounds.
