Manipulation Essay

Manipulation is often aggressive, it creates internal(conflict with your own self,in your
mind), as well as external(outside conflict with someone else) conflicts. Victims dont stay the
same, they change after a manipulation, which means they are not static but dynamic. Static
means for a character to stay the same, when dynamic means-to change. Manipulators abuse
victims physically and mentally. One in every four women experienced domestic violence in her
lifetime. Women often have been abused by someone they knew. Most of the times its not
reported to a police or to anyone else at all! Manipulation- is something what other person makes
you do, sometimes without forcing you, but kindly making you to. You wouldnt know if youre
being manipulated. Manipulation changes everyone depending on how person manipulated his
victim. It happens everyday, in everyones life, for some it affects them more than for other.
Even so, you could prevent yourself from being manipulated, following your wishes -not what
someone else is telling you. My essay will be about: -What are some of the ways someone may
try to manipulate other; how does manipulation creates conflicts; how does manipulation change
people; how can someone avoid manipulation;
Everyone in a society manipulates each-other, using different ways. Some manipulators
will use love to manipulate. They are sure about their target (victim), they are sure that they love
them, so whatever manipulator will want this person to do , they will do it, because this person
loves him/her. Manipulators often use this, they can do anything they like to a victim, but victim

will still stay. This is shown in Domestic Violence, article 1, : It was never the way he wanted
it. I was either too fat, didnt cook the food right .I think he wanted to hurt me-(Domestic
violence in Historical and Social context., first article). This quote shows that he was never
satisfied with her, called her anything he wanted, hurt her as much as he wants, but she still
loves him no matter what, she still stayed with him. Perfect example of how manipulator
manipulates love. Other manipulators, may also use the knowledge they have about you- your
weak-spots. This is shown in a story the Cask of Amontillado , Fortunados love to wine was
used against him! My dear Fortunado, you are lucky me. How remarkably well you are looking
to-day. But I have received a pipe of what passes Amontillado, and I have my doubts. -( the
Cask of Amontillado). There are a lot of different ways to manipulate, I introduced only 2 of
them. So, people use love - by saying that, I mean that if manipulator knows that victim loves
them, manipulators will do anything and saying them want without worrying that victim will
leave them. Second example that I mentioned- is using your preferences, weakspots. Example
that I provided is shows that having a weak spot might play against you. Fortunados love to
wine was used against him. So, its not always good to have one, or if you do have, better if no
one knows about it, or similar to Fortunado it will turn out badly for you as well. People who
manipulate often create side/additional conflicts to help themselves in manipulation.
Manipulation create conflicts that end up bad for victims of manipulation. He takes her
by the palm. Ay, well said, whisper! With as little a web as this will I ensnare as great a fly as
Cassio. Ay, smile upon her, do, I will gyve thee in thine own courtship. You say true, 'Tis so,
indeed. If such tricks as these strip you out of your lieutenantry, it had been better you had not
kissed your three fingers so oft, which now again you are most apt to play the sir in. Very good,
well kissed, and excellent courtesy! tis so, indeed. Yet again your fingers to your lips? Would

they were clyster-pipes for your sake! ( Othello, William Shakespeare, act 2 , scene 1). This
Example shows how Iago, in this case, a manipulator, is planning to create additional conflicts to
manipulate better, dragging other characters in. This conflicts created by a manipulators often
cause a lot of trouble for characters. Reputation, reputation, reputation! Oh, I have lost my
reputation! I have lost the immortal part of myself, and what remains is bestial. My reputation,
Iago, my reputation! (Othello,William Shakespeare, act 2, scene 3).This quote shows, how
manipulator's previously created conflicts affect characters that are innocent. Cassio, lost his
name, reputation, work, and more worse- Othellos respects for him, and all because of a web
that was created by Iago. Manipulation toward anyone, change both, victim, and side people who
are included in a conflicts.
Any kind of manipulation changes people in a certain way due to an internal conflicts
victim had during a process of manipulation. Depending on what manipulation have done to a
victim, it changes persons personality. People who are easily manipulated have weak
personality, they change more often. In a story Othello, Othello is a dynamic character, heve
been in a long term manipulation by Iago, after which he changed his personality. I will chop
her into messes! Cuckold me?-(Othello, William Shakespeare, act 4, scene 1). This quote shows
how Othellos personality and feeling changed toward Desdemona due to Iagos manipulation.
At the very beginning, Othello was so lovely and loved her with all his heart, he wouldnt even
think to harm her in any way. Manipulation not only changes victims, manipulators themselves
change too. If to take story Othello as an example, Iago-a manipulator changed from sane
manipulation to insane. At first he only wanted to get Cassio out of his job, however, now he
wanted them all to die. This is the night,That either makes me or fordoes me quite.-(Othello,
William Shakespeare, act 5, scene 1). In this quote Iago was trying to say that he either will

achieve his goal, which was to kill everyone by that moment, or he will fail-die. So eventually he
dragged himself into this huge conflict that was created by himself, and he had nothing to lose,
so he just decided to go with a flow, there was no turning back. After a person was manipulated
for a long time, victim will think the way manipulator wants it. Othello started thinking
Desdemona is cheating, everyone around is lying- all this is influence of Iago. Everyone can be a
victim of a manipulation. However , you could avoid it.
Manipulations happens everyday to everyone, its hard to avoid it, but its possible! You
might think its easy, but its not. Sometimes you dont even know youre being manipulated. Or
sometimes you just cant escape , no matter what you do. I may have to leave, but if I do, Im
giving up on a father for children, and Im giving up on him. (Domestic Violence in the law:
Theory and Practice). So, this quote shows that she cant leave him, even if he is an alcoholic. To
avoid manipulation you should follow your own wishes, do what YOU want to do, not what
someone else is telling you. You need to learn how to say no, if someone is asking you to do
something simply just refuse.Just be yourself, do what you want and dont trust too much,
always have your own opinions.
Manipulation is a serious thing that happens everyday with many of us, and it create
internal and external conflicts. People who experienced manipulation often change. We must
avoid it, and its not that hard You just have to be yourself, follow your wishes. We all have
life, so it means even if you make a mistake , its ok because we learn on mistakes. Manipulation
isnt always abusive, sometimes its just a manipulation to make you do something, like a
teacher telling you to do your hw to get a good grade, or mom telling you to wash dishes or she
will take your laptop away, so its not always that bad. However, in some situations, its very bad,
its violating, both-your mental system and you physically. If you feel like youre being abused,

you just need to end, by doing what I mentioned earlier. If you see someone is being aggressively
manipulated- help them , if you dont want to do it yourself, report to a police, but dont just
watch this person suffering.
