I pledge to support the Honor System of Old Dominion University. I will refrain from
any form of academic dishonesty or deception, such as cheating or plagiarism. I am

I) Philosophy of Nursing
A. Personal Philosophy: Nursing is not only about intelligence and technique,
but Nursing is about competence, acceptance and understanding with the patient.
1. Nursing: Profession that assesses and treats patients with health
problems through maintaining a therapeutic relationship
2. Person: For all patients who need thorough assistance for health
3. Environment: Privacy - patient feels internally/externally comfortable
4. Health: Patient and nurse have all needed equipment, tools and
accessibility that benefit and promote patients health
B. Incorporation of Nursing Theories
1. Nightingale Environmental Model
2. Peplau Interpersonal Relations
3. Leininger Culture Care Diversity and Universality Theory
C. Qualities of Practice Environment Necessary
1. Patient must be comfortable internally and externally
2. Patient receives all needed treatment and remains unharmed
3. Setting must be specialized for patients needs and comfort
4. Nurses and healthcare workers must be competent and understanding
B. Professional Outlook
1. Goals in My Own Nursing Practice
i. Nurses are open and ready for life-long learning process
ii. Nurses are highly competent, understanding, passionate

iii. Nurses are able to establish healthy therapeutic relationships


without barriers from inequalities
iv. All patients feel satisfied and comfortable in setting and nurses
presence
2. Challenges to Nursing Now and Future
i. Understands that health providers do not have the answers to
everything. Must be intelligent critical thinkers to adjust
ii. Accepts not everything can be approached and solved
positively; can be handled in the same way every time
iii. Will be difficult to always understand and maintain competency
II) Explanation of Artwork
A. Puzzle Pieces
1. Puzzle altogether represents the challenges that nurse and patient will
face towards health treatment
2. Pieces represent nurses and patients will be completely different but
with competence and therapeutic relationship, puzzle pieces will fit
B. Colors
1. All pieces are colored differently to represent those differences
2. Yellow: comfort, liveliness, energy, optimism
3. Blue: peace, professionalism, loyalty, reliability, stability
4. Green: durability, environmental, safety, honesty, harmony, relaxation
5. Orange: enthusiasm, stimulation, cheerfulness
