To Whom It May Concern:

I am writing to apply for an open position within your district. I am
currently student teaching with the high school orchestra at Fairfield High
School. My student teaching experience has allowed me to grow
professionally while working with students. I have specifically learned how
to work collaboratively with fellow educators, respond to problems quickly
within the classroom, and how to plan lessons effectively.
Enclosed you will find my resume which includes descriptions of my past
experiences and qualifications. I have a diverse background in music and I
would like to put this diversity to use in your school district. Ive held
positions as a private lesson teacher and director of a small cello ensemble at
Hamilton High School. I also have held a position as an assistant director of
Hamilton High Schools Indoor Marching Percussion Ensemble. These
positions allowed me to grow as an educator and taught me how to create
individualized curricula for each student I taught.
I hope to have the opportunity to meet you in the future. If you would like
me to interview for any position are there any materials I need to complete
prior to any interview? Please feel free to contact me at the phone number I
have listed above.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Sincerely,

Gabrielle Yancey

Write a brief essay on why you want to teach.
Looking back on my experiences within the public school system I consider myself lucky. I had
primarily good music teachers who helped shape me into the musician I am today. I contribute most of my
music teaching aspirations to them and I would like to have the same influence on students that come into
my classroom. My background in music is truly diverse. Throughout my primary and secondary education
I was in every music ensemble and class that my school district offered, because I played six instruments.
My senior class voted me most musical because I was in so many ensembles. My hope is that I can
transfer my passion for music to each and every student that I teach. Music is a subject that all students
should have the chance to learn and understand. I want to share music with as many students as possible,
because it will impact their life forever. Students who are proficient in music have shown tremendous
improvement in other areas, because it is so applicable in other subjects. Cross-curricular lessons in music
are very successful and I plan to bring this approach into the classroom; collaboration with other subject
teachers is a must in order for this to happen. I often try to imagine myself in another field but then realize
that I cannot possibly do anything other than teach music because music education is where my passion,
talent, goals, and dreams exist.

Provide names and contact information for three different references who would be willing to discuss your
potential for success in teaching.
