Should Animals Be Used in Research?

For many years, our humanity has been dedicated to progress in technology and
research, mostly, without knowing the damage that they are causing to earth. Since long
time ago, pharmaceutical companies have been using animals for research that have
helped us evolve as a society. But humans are causing great danger and harm to helpless
and innocent animals, without having concern that our species carelessly do whatever
they want with the other animal species that live in earth. During most of these
investigations, these animals are taken from their natural habitat and are abused to satisfy
human needs. While we believe we are superior to other species and become selfish, we
carry these inoffensive creatures to loneliness, suffering, and, often, unnecessary and
harmful treatments for their health. Some may agree with me that we use these animals
to test cures for diseases without even knowing if the treatments will work in humans, but
others maybe think that treatments that work on animals can work on us. Animal
experimentation is one factor for animal life unbalance on earth, causing species
extinction and mutations.
Some people may think that it is a little exaggerating to think that we are changing
the balance of the Earth, but it is not. One simple thing as taking an animal away from its
habitat is enough to alter the cycle. Others may object because for example, if
pharmaceutical companies dont take animals out of their habitats, they wont have
enough samples to experiment with. On the other hand, some people may disagree with
these people because if we need to investigate they can use the human race and
experiment with them and they dont need to cause diseases and kill animals for some

investigations that maybe it work in animals but not in humans. Some others are in the
middle and can think that if we use animals it makes us selfish or its the right thing to do
and animals are there for us and for our use. Also The Association of the British
Pharmaceutical Industry says The majority of the UK public supports the use of animals
in medical research. According to MORI polls, over the past seven years support for
animal testing has increased. Seventy-six per cent of the population believes that animal
experimentation for medical research is acceptable, while a further ten per cent are
neutral.
Its good if some people think animals are there for our use and for whatever we
want, but they dont realize that it is for this reason that we are considered the most
dangerous species on the earth. But think in the other way, animals are so important to
maintain the world in perfect conditions, what could happen if they disappear or maybe if
we make them disappear? A great example is what would happen if insects disappears,
according to Beatriz Moisset if insects disappear the agriculture is going to suffer, that
means that we are going to suffer too because we will lose our source of energy. Another
reason is presented by PETA in a recent research they writes, Poisoning, shocking,
burning, and killing animals is all in a days work for vivisectors. Now think about you,
a person suffering that all of this animals, maybe you dont care because they are animals
but at least care about you. We dont need to abuse for the food chain and alter it, we
need to change.
During these investigations animals are mistreated and killed. Some may argue
that if we take sick animals it is all right because we are curing them but others may say
that using sick animals doesnt make it abuse. However, laboratories do not always use

sick animals. A good example of this is the movie Planet of the Apesdirected by
Rupert Wyatt. In this movie we saw how Steven Jacobs mistreated Koba, taking him out
of it nature putting him in a small cage made of acrylic and without space to move and
the only that he can do is taking out his hand for take his food. This happens many times
in real life. Other way of how they mistreated Koba is making him do things that he
doesnt want to do and if he does it they give him some food and all of the medicines
they put on him to find the possible cure of Alzheimer's. We can see in this movie that
animals have feelings and that they used healthy animals for experiments that can kill
them or make them sick.
In conclusion, we need to care more about our nature and start to think about our
future. The damage that we make in the present affects our future and its not fair for the
people that really care to pay the price of what other people do. We are not alone, and
animals are very important for us not to find cure or to do research with them although
they are here to make the world better to us for survive. These creatures are inoffensive
and they only attack us because the feel like we always came to attack them. Think about
this, why do we take this creature from their family if they dont do the same with us?
Because they arent like us and accept the nature the way it were created.
