Course Requirements
Every class session and course assignment has been thoughtfully and
intentionally designed for students to successfully accomplish the learning
outcomes. Specifically, class activities and assignments are designed to
identify the components of academic learning that contribute to high
achievement and to help students learn and practice effective learning and
study strategies linked directly to their courses. To that end, this course
requires students to attend class and actively participate, as well as to
complete quizzes and homework assignments.

Attendance

PEOPLESHELF

Students who attend class daily, on time, and come prepared are more
likely to succeed. This means more than just showing up. It means being
ready with your materials and homework to participate.
In the unlikely event that you are absent, it is your responsibility to find
out the material you missed and the assignments that are due. You will
find it helpful to have the contact information for at least two classmates.

Coach

For your information: PCC policy maintains 3 tardies = 1 absence, after

four absences you can be dropped and if you are dropped from (or you
drop), then you can also be dropped from the FYE program.

Tolerance and Honesty

In a class like ours, where each person is asked to constantly share their
writing and their ideas, it is essential that we all create and maintain an
atmosphere of tolerance and respect. Everybody should feel able to speak
and everybody should be willing to listen. While we invite and encourage
debate and differences of opinion, we will not tolerate hateful or malicious
commentary.

Meta

All students are expected to be in complete compliance

with the Pasadena City College policy on academic
honesty. In NO instance will cheating of any type be
tolerated in this course. Any student found to be
behaving in an inappropriate manner will receive a
failing grade for the semester and may be removed from
the FYE program.

Getting What You Need

Now that you are in College, your education is going

through a big change. In College, there is an expectation
that you will proactively take the steps necessary to get
what you need to succeed. That can be intimidating.
Learning how to ask the right people the right questions
is a skill to hone in this class.
