Domain 4: Professional Responsibilities

4a: Reflecting on Teaching

On reflection after a lesson I would not say that I am distinguished at this practice,
but I do believe that I am proficient at it. Once my students have left the room for
the day I begin to reflect on the class today with regards to all 4 domains.
I began my journal in October when I started my first takeover. I do not proceed to
write in it directly after class, but rather let my thoughts stew around until the end
of the day.
When students are released from school each day that is when I sit down to write
and reflect. I make changes in classroom management, delivery, and/or content.
Another time of reflection for me is on the phone with my sister, father, and/or
mother. My immediate family has always been available for me to converse with
about anything. What really helps me, when I am looking for outside input, is
speaking with my sister and/or brother in-law because both are secondaryeducation teachers in Foxborough, Massachusetts.
4b: Maintaining Accurate Records
I would have to say that I come in at basic in this sub-category. I do keep track of
attendance, bathroom usage, and completed/missing/excused work; however, there
have been times where I misplaced a few papers for a couple days. I also need to
establish a better system for tracking student behavior.
I use ClassDojo, but I do not like to be on that during class. What I may do is record
behavior during class just simply writing it down, then later add it to my ClassDojo.
4c: Communicating with Families
I rate myself at level 1 unsatisfactory. I have really only been in contact with
families with regards to behavior and disciplinary reports, and to have them see and
sign progress reports.
One of my goals the next six weeks is to communicate with families better (to
include good reports home too.

Domain 4: Professional Responsibilities

4d: Participating in the Professional Community

I rate myself basic for this sub-category. I share instructional methods by emailing
them or verbally explaining it to other teachers.
I am always polite to colleagues and willing to share my knowledge.
At RHS we have two Common Planning Time (CPT) where in one, the department
gets together, and the other, the academy gets together. During the department CPT
we work on class records, where, in the academy CPT we work on school records
(for example, RTII). These CPT is great time for us to share and plan for student
success.
With the term coming to an end I will have more time to dedicate to participating in
school activities, events, and initiatives. I am taking professional courses at the
moment that makes it difficult to find time. I look forward to watching the
basketball teams and attending other events.
This is my residency year, which means I may not be at the same school next year,
and I live 45 minutes outside of the city. These two variables are causing me to
hesitate when it comes to support of community initiatives.
4e: Growing and Developing Professionally
I fall into level 1. Although I regularly read through academic readings, I have only
been able to participate in the district and school mandated professional
development days. I have been invited to others by PTR, but I have not been able to
make it downtown t attend.
I have been and still am a member of NSTA. I receive the Science Teacher which
provides me with great insight into instruction, demonstrations, and classroom
environment.
4f: Showing Professionalism
I rate myself at level 2. There have been more than enough days that I have come in
later then expected due to multiple variables, but I always work hard for my
students.
My students know that I want them to succeed, but succeed with high expectations
of themselves.
My students also know that I have no problem devoting my lunch, prep, and
planning time to help them if they take the time too.
Again, this is my first year and my residency year, so I do what I can. There are
certainly some practices that do not aid student.
