Math Daily 5
Objective: Students will develop independence, stamina, and
accountability.
Purpose: Students are placed in five-leveled groups. Teachers are
able to meet differentiated needs of the five-leveled groups.
Station 1: Computers
During this station, students are independently working on math
problems provided by the IXL Math Practice website. Teachers are
able to track students progress on this website because each student
has his/her own account.
Differentiation: Students can choose to work on math problems
above 2nd grade or below 2nd grade.
Station 2: Chrome Books
CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.2.OA.B.2: Fluently add and subtract within
20 using mental strategies.
Students are timed while practicing basic math facts in addition,
subtraction, and multiplication.
Differentiation: Students can only advance to the next level if they
get all math facts correct in the allotted time.
Station 3: Build a Turkey
CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.2.G.A.1: Recognize and draw shapes
having specified attributes, such as a given number of angles or a
given number of equal faces. Students are using different
geometrical shapes to create a turkey. On a separate recording
sheet, they have to label the correct shapes, number of sides, and
number of corners that each shape has.

Station 4: Thanksgiving Shopping

CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.2.OA.B.2: Add and subtract within 20.
Students have to glue at least six food items into their shopping bags.
Each item has a price and students have to use addition and
subtraction strategies to figure out which items they can use without
going over $25.
Station 5: Memory
CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.2.NBT.A.2: Count within 1000; skipcount by 5s, 10s, and 100s.
Students have to match the standard form of numbers 1-100 to tallies
or base ten blocks.
Differentiation: The lower group of four students has to match the
standard form of numbers 1-50 with either tallies or base ten blocks.
The highest group of students will have to match the standard form of
numbers 50-100, with tallies, and base ten blocks.
