Welcome

everyone back!! ~introduce myself, im not human but I will try to

set the best example I can. Im no Michelle, I am Aubry and will be a little
different. I would love feedback and commentary as well as requests about
what exactly youd like to get out of our times together.

Go around and share what you did this summer; what God blessed you with
and what he could help you with.
Write down new goals for the semester to be prayed over and find ways in
which God (and study members) can help you
New Beginnings

The beginning of Mark is about the preparation of Jesus arrival. Prepare the
way for the Lord, make straight paths for him
~ What are some ways we can straighten our own paths out in the beginning
of the year to set the right tone for what we want to accomplish?
John the Baptist appeared to help people repent for their sins. How willing
would any of us be to admit our sins to a stranger? Is that easier than
admitting things to our friends who know us well? How many of us would
like a clean slate?
**** Use this first semester as an opportunity for a clean slate! You can be
exactly who you want to be if you set your ways early!

After Jesus was baptized, he was in the wilderness forty days being temped
by Satan. What are some temptations that may get in your way? How hard
is it to say no? What are some of your tricks to beat that temptation? (it
could be as simple as watching too much Netflix or eating that extra slice of
pizza)

I baptize you with water, but he will baptize you with the Holy Spirit
We are all human, so when we do go off of our ideal straight path, what are
some ways to renew and refocus? (pray, write in a diary, take a hot shower
after a night of regrets) Try to remember these methods whenever youre
are beginning to feel lost!

Verses on focus:
Colossians 3:2 Set your mind on things that are above, not on things that are
on earth.

Matthew 6:33 But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and
all these things will be added to you.

Matthew 6:24 No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and
love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You
cannot serve God and money.

Closing thought: as the semester goes on, we may feel like we are
occasionally losing control. Find comfort in knowing God has a plan for each
and every one of you. It may be frustrating to not always know the end game
of these plans but trust in Him, He knows what is best for us. Use this new
beginning to make the best version of yourself.
Philippians 2:13 for it is God who is at work in you, both to will and to work
for His good pleasure.

Notes for Mark Week 2
~Highs and lows for the week.
~Shout out some people you admire; people you look up to and follow.
(Beyonce) confidence is key. Knowing what you are doing is something
you believe in and feel passionate about.
~Has there ever been a time when you did not stand up for something that
was right?

Observations: fisherman Simon/Andrew James/John
FOLLOW three times
All of the fisherman left something important (jobs, livelihood, identity,
control, comfort, consistency) behind to them to follow Jesus
~What are some important things in your life? (family, dog, sisters) Could
you walk away from these things if a stranger asked you to?
At once they left their nets and followed him ~What are some nets or
setbacks in your own life? What or who can hold you back from being a
leader or standing up for what is right?
Jesus movement is continuous and purposeful--(Greek recruitment)
~What are some qualities of a leader? What makes you want to follow
someone?
~When do you feel the most confident? What some tricks to overcome your
fears of leading or standing up to what is right?
With recruitment coming up, what are some ways our movements can be
purposeful and admirable?

Interpretation: Why fisherman? Is there significance? **Who are the
fisherman in our life? (PNMs, younger siblings etc)
What was the cost to follow Jesus?
What would cause someone to follow someone else? (leadership, confidence,
be the example and role model that would cause others to follow you)
What did they gain? (purpose, potential promise of a better life, a higher
calling)
What can you gain by following the right people?
What can others gain by following you?

Application: What would it cost you? What kind of aspects would make you
a leader that someone would want to follow? Who are the fishermen in your
life? Do you want to be fishers of men or just fisherman (IDENTITY)? What
are some barriers in our way to follow Jesus?

Closing thought: After this weeks turmoil, we need to set our own standard.
Be the women that you would choose to follow. Lead with the confidence
and grace that I know youre all capable of!! Even when its hard to let go of
those nets holding some of us back, remember that you have all of us and
Jesus behind you.

Verses on self-confidence:
Phillipians 4:13 I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me.

Hebrews 13:6 We may boldly say, the Lord is my helper and I will not fear
what man shall do unto me.

Hebrews 10:35-36 Cast not away therefore your confidence, which hath
great recompense of reward.

WEEK 3
Observations:
Repetition Jesus telling demons to be quiet; teaching 5X
Contrast- Jesus vs. TOL
People are amazed by Jesus teaching; hes teaching, not boasting
Setting- after sunset, synagogue (public places), Capernaum (similar to Mount Pleasant
news travels fast, and in the Greek community, Simon and Andrews home, small town feel,
people would be more willing to listen)
*Teaching, deliverance, healing

Demons: Fallen angels. What are some forms of demons? (Mental illness, money, false idols,
other people, possessions) What are some of your own demons? How can we silence or own
demons, just as Jesus silenced the one in the man?

*What does Jesus have authority over? (Disease, sickness, people, teachings of faith, etc.)

Jesus has authority over everything and is active in setting those free by delivering and
healing them.
Public places, personal spaces--- do allow Jesus in your personal space or do you leave him at
church?

WEEK 4
~What would jesus tweet after bible study?

Observations:
~Jesus seeking people people seeking Jesus
~Jesus telling why he has come
~Small village dynamic continued
Who: Jesus When: early morning/ dark What: casting out demons/healing; Jesus is seeking
out a solitary place to pray Where: solitary place

Interpretation:
Why is Jesus in a solitary place? Why does he want to be by himself?
What is the significance of darkness (instead of just saying its early)?
Why is He sharing his plans?

Answers
~Finds solitary place to be still in the presence of the Lord; time to recharge; receive
guidance on what to do next
~Darkness- cannot see what the day will bring yet. Walk by faith, not by sight
~People are worried He left after doing so much

Main truth: as a follower of Jesus, it is essential to pull away from the busy world and
recharge as well as receive guidance on what to do next.

Greek connection- chapter has problems, TLC comes with amazing solutions and then
disappears the next day. We need time away from our sorority and its problems and need to
recharge. Sometimes we are too close to the problem and need some perspective. The
rhythm of rest and workdont we all need that?

What did you learn about yourself? What are your next steps?
