Motor differences in higher & lower skilled students

Activity Observed: overhand throwing, baseball pitch, catching

Grade/Age Level: 4th

DIRECTIONS: You will observe many children performing many different kinds of skills. Select 8 (or as
many as you can) different tasks and describe how the high skilled students and the low skilled students are
performing.

not complete the stretch of at least
90 degree flexion of the knee
Students were not able to get the
heels of their feet to touch their
buttocks.
Students often left out 1 or 2 cues
necessary for a good overhand
throw
Students had difficulties
understanding all of the cues of the
skill and often mixed their right
and left feet.

Students had great motor


coordination as they were able to
place their feet in the correct space
Students got into great position
with flexion of the knees and
extension after the stretch
Students performed the skill with
easy and fluidity
Students correctly executed the
cues of the skill
Students were able to understand
the concept of the overhand throw
and the steps necessary to
complete the throw
