Syllabus for ATEC 4346

Instructor: Brendan Alimo

A) Create and maintain a daily record of original plot ideas for stories.
B) Describe plots in a few lines or paragraphs ready to pitch to the class.
C) Deliver ten per class by class #10 or a total of 100 plot ideas.
D) Treat all web and commercial media sources as subject to commercial,
political and or cultural bias.
E) Read the books and articles discussed in class.
F) Search for and identify verifiable original accounts and stories before
forming a defensible, reasoned opinion.
G) Research and be ready to describe the sources and inspiration of your
stories even when your product is fictional.
H) Rigorously treat everything you read and see on the web as a single
source to be cross-checked against all other media.
I) To counterbalance the commercially controlled filtration process of
internet search engines, visit, join and borrow books from libraries then
show the class your library card.
J) Watch the movies, videos and games shown and/or referred to in class
and defend your opinion of them to the class.
K) Decide the book, screenplay, documentary script, game script that you will
deliver to us before the last class.
L) Demonstrate to the class your true commitment to your product - or lack
thereof.
M) Research technical developments and scientific research that will drive
new media formats and consider their effects on your stories.
N) Learn about the nature and understanding of human creativity from the
latest scientific sources.
O) Read historic eye-witness accounts of scientifically verifiable events.
P) Read analyses by scholars of the matrices and developments of
mythology – stories- since earliest human cultures.
Q) Assess the positive and negative effects of stories in shaping the
interaction of humans immersed in different cultural and religious
environments.
R) Propose how your stories will entertain, inspire or disturb your audience.
S) Seek out and network with class members who have skills that you need
to complete your product.
T) Show respect for the creative individuals and teams who have written the
book or produced the movie, play or game that you choose to experience
– by avoiding distractions.
U) Immerse yourself in the experience of the class and the extraordinary
opportunities it offers you to achieve your dreams.
