Shirlene Goins Profile

Fourth grade teacher at Kelsey Elementary school

Has been teaching for eleven years

Transferred each year to different schools trying to find a school where she fits in
with her teaching style

Leg pain from a car accident has caused numerous absences , which has used up
her allotted time off for this year

Requested the teacher union to file an ADA on her behalf for more leave with pay

With several written complaints from parents the principal needs to make daily
visits to the classroom

Mrs. Goins believes in independent learning, not direct instruction

Goals

Work with Mrs. Goins to incorporate tasks and objectives into her lesson plans

Ensure that she explains a standard and the objectives to the students

Work with in direct instruction methods and differing materials that she can use to
compliment the lessons

Work with to explain reflection methods with the students and the use of daily
journals

Review the daily journals to ensure what the students have learned and what still
needs to be reviewed

COACHING PLAN

Create Awareness

Schedule meeting with Mrs. Goins and principal Barreto to address concerns and
methods of improvement

Create and develop a student friendly classroom environment

Develop and review a personal Professional Growth Plan, Formative and


Summative Evaluations to help Mrs. Goins develop an action plan of
improvement standards

Closure

Allowing Mrs. Goins to strengthen her skills will help her become a stronger
teacher and will allow the students opportunities to improve

Involving Mrs. Goins in the planning process will allow her to feel that she is in
control of her improvement plan

Seeking peer mentoring will help strengthen Mrs. Goins in areas that she need to
improve

Positive feedback in the areas that Mrs. Goins has made improvements will help
turn Mrs. Goins into an excellent teacher

With a new drive Mrs. Goins evaluation will show improvement

Pairing Mrs. Goins with a peer mentor

Ensure that the mentor excels in Mrs. Goins areas of concern

Monitor Mrs. Goins classroom progress with observation and peer mentor
reflections

Monitor parent/teacher conferences to observe Mrs. Goins interaction with


parents

Progress Monitoring

Holding conferences with Mrs. Goins, discussing what areas have improved and
what areas she still has concerns with

With continued observation and evaluation will help Mrs. Goins access her action
plan and make continuous improvements

Acknowledge the areas that Mrs. Goins has made progress in

Continue monitoring and ensure that Mrs. Goins excels in the classroom, the
school, the district, and with colleagues so long as her career continues to the
standards expected
