PROCEDURE
Introduction (__min.):
Hook/Attention Grabber: Give me five Wait at least 20 seconds for everyone to be looking, and listening.
Assessment of Prior Knowledge: I will go over foreground, middle ground, and back ground again.
Expectations for Learning and Behaviour: Students will be expected to demonstrate the good listening skills we have
discussion, as well as follow the agreed upon classroom rules.
Advance Organizer/Agenda: Agenda will be on Board.

Body (__min.):
Learning Activity #1: Review on Foreground, Middle Ground, background and Perspective (What is big, what is
small?) I will draw some examples on board for this part. Make sure students understand that far away things
are small, close things are large. I will go over adding details to closer things and making them larger.
Assessments/Differentiation: Observational assessment of their drawing. Are they using details in the foreground? Are all of the
things the correct size? Are they scribbling or colouring carefully?

Learning Activity #2: Shading Practice: I will work through how to do gradients with the students on a piece of
paper. They will start with the darkest, and go to the lightest using 8 different colors. I will explain that this
helps add depth to drawings. I will work with them to do red, and then I will let them try the others.
This will lead to some practice on the back of the page without the boxes.
I will demonstrate holding the pencil crayon on its side and shading that way. We will need to take some time to
sharpen their pencil crayons.
If there is time, I will show students different ways to create texture with their pencil crayons.
Assessments/Differentiation: Observational assessments of their practice. I will address students who are struggling with how to
colour lightly.
