Corn Husk Dragonflies

Objective: Students will craft their own corn husk dragonflies after themed cultural Unit.
Standards:

Materials
-Pack of Corn Husk
-Bowl of Water (soak husks over-night)
-Newspapers/Apronsclean up
----OPTIONAL----Food Coloring-Add it to the husks as they soak to dye them slightly
Paints, googly eyes. (again, completely optional)

Anticipatory Set: We will begin our lesson reading the book Dragonflys Tale and discussing why
the dragonfly is of importance to the people in correlation to the text.
After a short Q & A during our circle time, we will break into groups and listen up while directions
are given on how to make the actual corn husk dragonflies.
We will make the first dragonfly together, and then commence to make one more on our own.
If time allows, we will paint or further decorate our corn husk creations.

Closure: Once we are finished with our dragonflies we will hang them around the classroom and
talk about what they think the dragonfly represents.

Independent Practice:
-Draw a picture of your favorite part of the story, bring it back to class to be discussed during circle
time.
