Colorful Collages

Objective: Students will be able to successfully create a portrait of either
themselves or a sitting object using only the provided materialsno drawing.
Standards:
Visual Arts, Second Grade S.3, Invent and Discover to Create: Develop and build
mastery in art-making skills using traditional and new technologies and an
understanding of the characteristics and expressive features of art and design.
-Recognize, interpret and validate that the creative process builds on the
development of ideas through a process of inquiry, discovery and research.
-Create presentation ready works of art (DOK 1-3)
-Choose appropriate materials to make art (DOK 1-2)

Materials:
-Large Sheets of Paper
-Scissors
-Glue
-Old Magazines
-Construction Paper
-Imagination

Anticipatory Set: Introduce some master works of collage in class. Then show a
little video (Youtube) to spark the kids interest.
Instructional Process: After completion of the anticipatory set students will break
up into tables where they will start cutting and finding images they will use to create
their collage.
Once the work is finished they will hand in their finished product where it is to be
hung and admired in the classroom.
I.E, this project is to be done over a period of 2-3 days.

Independent Practice: Over the weekend have them complete a collage portrait of
something or someone they commonly see at their house. Work will be shared
during circle time the following regular school day.
