1. Chapter 2: Culture and Society Drops of Jupiter-Train I think this song reminds me of globalization because everything is accessible in this song. In the past the world was as unreachable to people as the things in this song are now. In the song there are no limits on travel and the universe seems smaller. 2. Chapter 3: Socialization, the Life Course, and Aging Free Bird-Lynyrd Skynyrd This song reminds me of aging because my dad sometimes jokes that he wants it played at his funeral. I cannot imagine it being played at a funeral, but I like the concept of freedom after death. 3. Chapter 4: Social Interaction and Everyday Life in the Age of the Internet Love in the 21 Century-Neon Trees This song fits this concept perfectly. It is all about how different things are when you are trying to date in the age of the internet. 4. Chapter 6: Conformity, Deviance, and Crime A Well Respected Man-The Kinks This song reminds me the most of conformity. It describes a perfect man, a well respected man, and this description is something that people want to be. There is a certain kind of person that many strive to be, accomplished and respected. 5. Chapter 7: Stratification, Class, and Inequality Fortunate Son-Creedence Clearwater Revival The concept of this song has a lot to do with class and inequality. It talks about how some people are born with fortune and others are not.
6. Chapter 9: Gender Inequality
If I Were a Boy-Beyonce is about how a girl could act if she were a boy. There are a lot of things in society that are acceptable for men, but not for women. 7. Chapter 10: Ethnicity and Race Hurricane-Bob Dylan This song is all about a man who was charged for murder that he did not commit. He was framed and people thought it was okay because he was not white. The song talks a lot about how people of color were targeted and treated unfairly. 8. Chapter 11: Families and Intimate Relationships Father of Mine-Everclear talks about a father who left his family. It is not a really happy view on families, but it is a kind of family that exists. The song is from the perspective of a man who grew up in a single parent household. 9. Chapter 12: Education and Religion Everlasting Arms-Vampire Weekend just reminds me of religion. The title is something that is often said in association with God and religion. The song could be interpreted as making several references to religion. 10. Chapter 13: Politics and Economic Life The Hanging Tree-James Newton Howard is from the movie Catching Fire. This song in the movie turns into a kind of battle cry for the rebellion. It is all about people living under an oppressive government.
