Love will Prevail; My View on Crazy, Stupid, Love
Crazy, Stupid, Love is a Love story based on different relationships. Cal and Emily
Weaver were married right out of high school. They had three children. The movie starts out
with Emily asking Cal for a divorce. Cal ends up in the local bar, crying about Emily and her
affair with her Co-worker, David Lindenhaugen. Jacob who is a frequent bar goer and ladies
man, helps Cal out by updating his look and persona. Cal meets a school teacher named Kate at
the bar, who is ironically five years sober. His game doesnt work on her, but his honesty
persuades her and he takes her home. After this night he gains confidence and is able to take on
any woman that comes his way. Cal and Emilys son Robbie is 13 years old in middle school, he
is in love with his babysitter Jessica, who is 17 in high school. Jessica is in love with Cal. The
Weavers daughter, Hannah ends up meeting Jacob and falling in love with him. This whole
movie is a twist on the natural love story, it shows how different men and woman are, and how
they can change over the course of time.
In Cal and Emilys relationship, the story starts out with Emily having the upper hand.
Emily is strong and persistent, she knows what she wants. She is just like any woman though,
she insists on talking about her feelings and explaining why she cheated on Cal. She is a hard
worker and is able to provide for her family with or without Cal and she is ready to experience
that. Cal is like any other male, he does not want to hear about why she cheated, and he is hurt
but wont tell her why or try to justify the problems they have. He even jumps out of a moving

vehicle to avoid hearing Emily talk. He also shows his feminine side when he moves out, he tells
her how to take care of her garden and even has nightmares later on about David caring for it.
As the story evolves, Cal meets Jacob who is the epitome of cool. Jacob tells Cal he
wants to help him move on from Emily. He takes him to the mall and has him buy all new
clothes. Furthermore, Jacob takes him back to the bar where they met, he has him listen in on his
game to get woman to go home with him. Jacob always buys the woman a drink and then he
asks her about herself, he makes her feel that she is uninteresting and then tells her she is the
perfect combination of sexy and cute. He then gets the girls to go home with him. Jacob is
always the dominant one in the casual relationships he has. Cal finally understands his game
after a few nights and is ready to try it out.
The first night Cal starts out by talking to the school teacher, Kate. He tries to buy her a
drink and soon finds out that she is five years sober. This throws him off his game. She asks him
what he does and he tries to change the view onto her and ask what she does, it is very awkward.
He then becomes honest with her and is able to take her home after all. This sexual encounter
helps Cal to become a new person, the next day he comes in the bar and is able to talk to any
woman. He becomes a dominant figure. We later find out that Kate is Cal and Emilys son,
Robbies school teacher. This becomes very uncomfortable at back to school night when they go
to meet her together. Kate gives Cal the opportunity to be honest with Emily but he decides to lie
which makes Kate angry and obviously giving him away. Cal tries to act like he is still married
to Emily which was a little less dominant in my opinion. He shows his weak side again, I think
this is because Emily is his weakness.
This brings us to Robbie, he is in love with Jessica, his older babysitter. Although, he is
much younger, Robbie is persistent with pursuing their relationship. He shows up to her school

and puts a J on his chest to proclaim his love for her. Robbie is young but very strong about his
views on love, he is very dominant. Jessica is extremely embarrassed and asked him to stop and
to grow up. She tells him she is in love with an older man. She is originally very shy and modest.
We soon find out that the man Jessica is in love with is Cal. Jessicas classmate tells her to take
nude pictures and send them to him, to get him to see her as more than just a kid. Jessica puts on
makeup and takes pictures, she leaves them in an envelope with Cals name on it in her dresser
drawer. Her sexuality brings out her stronger side. Jessicas mom sees the envelope while
putting her laundry away. She shows them to her husband, which was extremely odd. Her dad
goes to attack Cal, Jessica chases him in her moms car and tries to tell him that he doesnt know
she is in love with him.
Last but not least, Jacob is first introduced to us in the local bar, where he tries his game
on a beautiful red headed girl named Hannah. Hannah is a law student and is not buying into his
game, she is very guarded. She quickly leaves before he is able to buy her a drink or talk her into
going home with him. Hannahs boyfriend offers her a job at his law firm when she finishes
school. She thought he was going to propose a marriage, not a job. He tells her that he wasnt
ready for that kind of commitment yet. Hannah goes straight to the bar where she met Jacob, she
hadnt stopped thinking about him since she met him and her girlfriend wouldnt let her forget
either. In this moment you could see how Hannah turned from a weak character, who just wanted
to settle down with the dorky guy from the law firm, into a strong woman, who is able to go out
and get what she wants. It is raining and Hannah walks into the bar soaking wet and get Jacobs
attention. She walks right up to him and kisses him and tells him they should get out of there.
This starts the beginning of a whole new world for both of them. Jacob ignores Cals phone calls
for a week. He quickly gets to know Hannah and falls in love with her. He never thought he

would fall in love with anyone before, he thought it was a joke. Hannah becomes more dominant
in this relationship because she is able to change Jacob with the power of love and she is able to
be a stronger person with a man who is much cooler then the one she had been previously
dating. Hannah takes Jacob home to meet her mother, this is where the whole story unravels.
Cal spends the day with Robbie and his little sister making a special project for Emily.
Robbie constantly tells his dad that he needs to be persistent in trying to win his mother back so
he has someone to look up to. The kids blind fold Emily and try to surprise her, things were
looking better at this point. This is when Hannah and Jacob walk in and we find out that Hannah
is Emily and Cals daughter. Cal and Jacob are both in shock they dont know what to say to
each other. Then Jessicas dad comes running in and attacks Cal, with Jessica running behind
him trying to explain. Jacob jumps in and punches her dad to get him off of Cal. As if this wasnt
enough drama, then David comes in to give Emily her sweater that she left in his car while on
their date the previous night. When he says his name, Jacob immediately walks up and punches
him in the face. This shows Jacobs dominance and how much he cares about Cal. The four men
end up wrestling and shouting and the cops finally come in and break it up. Cal tells Jacob that
he cant be with his daughter because he knows how he is with woman. Jacob tries to tell him its
different now. Jessica and her dad leave, ordering she stays away from Cal. Cal ends up alone
and sad.
Finally, at Robbies graduation his teacher Kate announces he is going to be the speaker.
Robbies speech is extremely depressing and has nothing to do with graduating, he only talks
about love. Cal ends up sitting alone in the audience because his family doesnt save any seats
for him. He stop Robbies speech from continuing and goes down to finish it for him. He
explains that he should never give up on love and tells his story about when he and Emily first

Tendler 5
met. It gives everyone a little inspiration. Jessica is sitting in the audience with her family as well.
After the graduation, Robbie tells his parents he is going to go find his friends. He was really
looking for Jessica and she appears to be waiting for him too. She finally lightens up and
congratulates Robbie with an envelope of what appears to be nude pictures of her. This shows
that age doesnt matter when it comes to love, and Robbie explains that one day he will look like
his father, so he wont give up, he will just wait a few years. He insists that they are soul mates.
She leaves confidently and Robbie is hopeful and extremely happy. Cal tells Jacob and Hannah
that he is okay with their relationship. Cal and Emily get to rekindle their relationship a little bit
as well. Emily tells Cal she is happy he bought her ice cream the first time they went out together.
I think this story is a good example of the changes people experience when they fall in
love. Jacob becomes softer and is able to experience a real relationship. Hannah becomes a bit
stronger and is able to find true love rather than a relationship she is just hopeful of. Robbie is
able to grow up and become a stronger person by the constant rejection from Jessica, but he
never gives up. Jessica is able to back off of her unrealistic fantasies of Cal and sees that maybe
one day Robbie will be old enough for her. Cal shows the most changes throughout the story. He
is originally weak and feminine, and later becomes a strong womanizer. Towards the end of the
story he finds a happy medium, he touches with his sensitive side, while still being the strong
man that Emily remembers when they first met. Emily starts out as a strong independent woman
who knows what she wants and later shows her weaker side and expresses her lack of power
without Cal. I think Kate brought out Cals strong side. Kate appeared to be a strong and sexy
woman who knew what she wanted, but towards the end she shows her crazy side and expresses
her lack of stability. Overall, this story was all over the place. The title explains it well.
