I could
sense an annoyed and indignant tone in the authors way of
writing. I think hes sick of all the people trying to make money off
of Africa by depicting it as a very exotic place that is full of
starving people. I am guilty, just like most other people, of writing
off Africa as simply this area where all the wild animals and
starving black people live. I think Africa, just like any other place,
is simply plagued by clichs, and these things cannot be easily
erased from peoples minds. In movies, television shows, Africa is
depicted as this backward place with no civilization. It must be
very frustrating for the writer of this article because he has lived in
the parts of Africa that are very much civilizedeven more so
than some of the provinces in the Philippines. I myself get really
annoyed when people depict the Philippines as this very exotic
and uncivilized country, where people lived in huts. It really
irritates me. It bothers me so much, I make sure whenever I meet
foreigners, I let them know I live in a big city and that what they
see on TV about our exotic country is simply not my reality.
