Collection of humanization through dehumanization

LESSON 3: COLLECTION OF
HUMANIZATION THROUGH
DEHUMANIZATION
In this lesson students will think about how collection humanizes us
and makes up individuals. But also how we can look at these very things
we collect as the things that dehumanize us, if we look at ourselves and
identity solely through what we collect.
Students will be diving into the world of digital media and will alter an
image of themselve with the objects, thoughts, memories ect. That they

collect ultimately abstracting their face and essentially dehumanizing them.

DAY1:DAY OF PLAY
Students will go to the computer lab and have a day of play with
the program Photoshop, so that they can get acquainted with the
program.

DAY 2: CRASH COURSE


Students will get a quick
crash course of the program
Photoshop and how to use the
basic elements
Including how to scan in
images into the computer.

DAY 3: INTRODUCTION/
JOURNALS & ALTERNATIVE
PROJECT
Students will be introduced to the final project
Students will be asked to brainstorm different items they would
want to incorporate in their final piece.
Also for students that are having a hard time with Photoshop an
alternative project will be introduced.
Students can instead print off a picture of themselves and draw on
top of and around the printed off image.

RESEARCH
Students will be given the day to look up pictures and do research
on what they want to include.

CURATING PROJECT
Students will be introduced to the final project of the unit, A
collection of their own artwork
Students will learn different aspects of curating a gallery opening.

DAY 11: GALLERY


Students will plan their own gallery opening to be presented to
their friends and family

DAY 12: SET UP


Students will set up their own work in the gallery (the classroom)
with their artist statements

DAY 12: EXHIBITION


Final exhibition
Students will get to walk around with friends and family after
school and marvel at their very own collection of art.
Students will turn in their artist journals at the end of the
exhibtion.
