Learning Objectives

First grade
Math
2 days
Students will create geometric shapes and identify each shape
name.

CCSS.Math.Content.1.G.A.1 Distinguish between defining

attributes (e.g., triangles are closed and three-sided) versus
non-defining attributes (e.g., color, orientation, overall size);
build and draw shapes to possess defining attributes.

CCSS.Math.Content.1.G.A.2 Compose two-dimensional

shapes (rectangles, squares, trapezoids, triangles, halfcircles, and quarter-circles) or three-dimensional shapes
(cubes, right rectangular prisms, right circular cones, and
right circular cylinders) to create a composite shape, and
compose new shapes from the composite shape.

Students will be able to:

Draw shapes which will help the students know each
name of each shape.
students will understand simple geometry and create
geometric shapes

Technology Uses

Students will use computers with internet access

Computers
White Posters
Coloring pencils, markers
Colored papers
Scissors

First the teacher must introduce the topic of geometric

shapes to the students; giving them a little information
about what shapes are.
The teacher most then start teaching the lesson of shapes,
teaching students the name of each shape and give them a

worksheet that defines each shape.

While teaching the lesson, the teacher should play the
movie to the students as an extra material to talk about the
lesson so the students can have fun while learning.
Next the teacher should assign the students into groups of
three.
After students get into their groups, each group gets one
large white construction paper, a pack of colored pencils,
and markers, also colored papers and a pair of scissors.
Then the teacher passes a computer to each student
allowing them to search some shapes that interest them as
extra after teaching them what the teacher wants them to
know.
Putting up on the white board an example of shapes; for
example, circle, triangle, square, rectangle, oval, and
diamond, the teacher must assign the students to draw each
shape on each of the colored papers. Each member of the
group must draw an additional shape of their interest. An
equal of three extra shapes for each group.
After drawing the shapes and writing down each name of
the shape under the shape it is to be cut and glued to the
large paper. The students must work together to complete
the project.
On the next day the students may get additional time if at
least 10 minutes to finish their work.
After finishing their work, each group must present their
shapes project.
Finally while presenting, the teacher must ask student about
each shape to make sure that the students had fun doing
the shapes project.

20 points= Student were able to define and name each shape

without any mistakes. Students drew each shape that was asked for.
Each student had a part to do when working together.
10 points= Construction paper was colorful, neat, and well
organized.
5 points= five points for at least two shapes drew on one of the
colored papers, cut, and glued to the white large construction paper
of their own interest.
