As I come to the end of my high school career I come to reflect my last reflection before my retro

perspective. With this last reflection I come to find a project in my senior year that has helped shaped
me into a person who is more college ready and investigating the world. I have learned this by attending
biotechnology class as we take on multiple labs that have been used by scientist in the past to help find
solutions to health problems such diabetes.
Having completed three years of science courses needed for my A-G requirements I decided to take on
another year by taking Biotechnology. To my surprise our teacher Ms. Panrroyo (whom I had for biology)
quickly settled the fact that she would be holding us accountable for our work in the class. Ms. Panrroyo
shaped our class room around requires amount of work, most of which had to do with preparing large
amounts of paper work for the class room labs which had plenty of. Even then we were hold
accountable of having to work our own personal reading of our designated book: The Immortal Life of
Henrietta Lacks. This long assignment required us to read chapters of the book on our own time along
with answering questions on the passage. This very much stimulates similar types of reading
assignments that professors shall require us to do in our time between class meetings. One shall also
find that Ms. Panrroyo has constantly reminded us that not doing these reading assignments shall
hinder only our self which add a level of pressure to the classroom when it comes to personal
responsibility. Even the amount of lab work that is brought up on us can be seen as a lesson to be
learned for the future challenges of college. For college shall bring a hefty amount of work that shall be
needed to help pass your classes.
Another prominent theme to derive from our biotechnology class is having to investigate the world. As a
subject and field of study biotechnology focus on using resources already available in the environment
in order to find solutions to possible health issues. We mostly do projects such as our lab 2 on Gel
Electrophoresis which involves separating the DNA, RNA, or protein from a sample. This is a procedure
that is commonly used in real labs to find possible substances to test with in our samples. This helps us
understand the various amount of procedures actual scientist go inside the lab. We also have learned
about various dilemmas that are currently in process around the world and how they are effecting us.
Such example derives from our current studies on bioweapons and their danger on the public. We
learned just how old these bioterrorism has been used, from the earliest human wars to the modern day
terrorism of public officials. These lessons help me understand the dangers and issues that still lie in this
world, which we can find solutions to such as threw Biotechnology.
