Overall Reflection
As I complete the last touches to my final essay in English, I stop and think about how far
Ive come. I would not have exceeded had it not have been for my very dedicated instructor and
friends and family that supported me the whole way. I am proud of my accomplishments and, I
am thankful for this opportunity to reflect on my work and better understand myself as a writer.
Looking back, specifically at the memoir and film analysis essays, I can honestly say that I have
performed to the best of my abilities. I also very much enjoyed rereading my work after some
time and truly treasure the way my memoir took me back to the memory of when my
relationship first began. I see writing as an opportunity to tell a story and to also share the way
your heart feels in the most creative and beautiful way, and yet your words can still be
interpreted to mean what the reader believes them to be.
My original grades for the semester include; an A on the memoir essay and a B on the
film analysis paper. In order to improve upon my B, I needed to develop my paper around my
thesis and stick to the three topic points. In extent, I did well to revise my work and reorganize
my thoughts to better present my essay. Each assignment throughout the semester did its own
part in aiding me to meet this courses competencies. First off, I am glad to have written the
memoir essay first, because it allowed me to reconnect with my writing senses and let me open
up in the most personal way. Then, every paper after that helped guide my down the path of
skills to enhance my writing and to better understand how to construct a successful essay. As for
specific aspects that helped me from each module, I found that there were certain things that I
grew stronger in because of the lessons and assignments in each module. For example, in module
two, I learned how to take my mental analysis and create a paper that reflected it. I also learned
how to incorporate quotes into my paper to better support my ideas. Module three taught me how
to take my analysis further and write a statement that I then mapped my thesis around. I plan on
taking all of what I have learned and using my new knowledge and writing skills to help me be
successful in future courses and a career.
All in all, I am happy to have been a part of this English 101 course. Not only do I take
knowledge with me along my path to the future, but I also have made new friends that have
made this semester more enjoyable than it ever could have been.
