Reflection
The wall displays and bulletin boards represented each student very well,
including photos of each student. I really liked the bucket list bulletin board that
displayed a writing assignment where the students used descriptive words to describe
how they would like to spend their spring break. Displaying this particular assignment
celebrated each individual student. There was a wall display celebrating diversity which
showed photos and information on famous Americans who overcame many challenges
such as Helen Keller, Rosa Parks, and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
Gender roles were not represented positively on the wall displays. Police officers
and firefighters and doctors were only displayed as male. Nurses and teachers were only
displayed as females. There were no multilingual displays.
Recommendations
I would recommend displaying gender role posters where both genders are
represented equally such as including a female police officer, firefighter, and doctor
posters as well as a male nurse and teacher poster. I would also incorporate multilingual
displays as well including the Spanish translation next to the English counterpart on the
high frequency word list display. I believe making these changes would improve the
multicultural quality of the bulletin boards and wall displays of the classroom.
