Instructional Objective

After watching the YouTube clip about volunteering, the students will be able to list at least 4 different
volunteer activities in each community using a visual map in kidspiration with 85% accuracy.

Indicator: This will be evident when students uses the material to complete the assignment.

Write informative/explanatory texts in which they introduce topic, use facts and definitions to
develop points, and provide a concluding statement or section.
Indicator: This will be evident when students write their paragraph summarizing what they have
learned from the youtube clip.
ISTE Nets for students 2. Communication and Collaboration. Students use digital media and
environments to communicate and work collaboratively, including at a distance, to support individual
learning and contribute to the learning of others.
Indicator- this will be evident when students work in groups to collaboratively list the different
communities, and to interview different volunteers in their communities.
ISTE NETS for students Standard 3. Research and information Fluency: students apply digital tools to
gather, evaluate, and use information.
Indicator- this will be evident when students use an online website to write a paragraph on what
they had learned from watching the clip.
Motivation

The teacher will show a 4 min clip about volunteers, then have a class discussion about it
afterwards.

Adaptations
For the student who is hard of hearing, the teacher will wear an FM unit on them and they will
sit close to the computer that is playing the YouTube clip.
For the student who has vision problems will sit close to the front so they can see the smart
board that will be playing the YouTube clip.
Differentiation of Instruction
The teacher understands that every student learns at a different level. The teacher will separate
it by tiered differentiation.
-tier one learners will be able to recall at least 2 volunteer jobs
-tier two learners will be able to recall at least 4 volunteer jobs
-tier three learners will be able to recall at least 6 volunteer jobs
Development Procedure
1. The teacher will use a YouTube clip as an introduction to the lesson. The teacher will then
have the students verbally answer questions about the clip that they had just viewed. ( why
do people volunteer? What volunteers did you notice? Do you have the same volunteers in
your community? What kind of community do you live in? )
2. The teacher will have the students view the website and recall the different communities
with the different volunteer jobs
3. The teacher will have the students go in groups to complete the worksheet that the teacher
passes out.
Assessment
Each students participation in their group work and individual work will be graded by the teacher.
Students will be graded with a rubric.
