IMPRESSIONS ABOUT AMERICA

Rizal had favourable comments about the order,
prosperity and progress of the united states.
He was impressed by Americas material progress
as evidenced by its big progressive cities, well
titled farms, and busy industrial factories.
He also noticed the drive and energys of the
Americans and their high standards of living.
Rizals negative comment was Americas lack of
racial equality. Their racial prejudice for the
blacks was inconsistent with their claim that they
are the defenders of democracy and freedom.

To his friend Jose Alejandrino Rizal summed

up his impression of America. he said,
America is a land par excellence of freedom
but only for the whites.
He felt the color of ones skin should not be
the reason for discrimination.
