Context of the lesson (Give information about the lesson and where it fits. Or, this lesson is a review
of .. covered in previous lessons
This lesson is the first lesson of Unit separating solids, gas and liquid. It is combination between
students prior knowledge and new information of different kind of liquids, solids and gases.

Teaching goal (State clearly what it is you plan to teach in this lesson
The overall aim of the lesson is to teach students about differences between matters in term of
shapes and their properties. Students will categorize matters and can be able to sort confusing
matters that can be convert to other matter.
Learning objectives (State clearly exactly what you want the ss to be able to do by the end of the
lesson. Students will be able to:

By the end of the lesson, students will be able to:

- Identify what are states or forms of matters which are liquid, solid and gas.
- categorize the matters.
- understand that some matters can be converted to solid or gas like water, powders.
Assumptions about prior learning (Mention what the ss know from previous lessons or their
experience eg The learners will have encountered or be familiar with or aware of...)
- Students already know what are the liquid and gases.
- Students may know some vocabulary of the lesson.
- Students are aware of water evaporation.
Anticipated problems and possible solutions (Mention problems and solutions related to management,
Some learners will find it difficult to pronounce some word like evaporation so I will make them
repeat the words.
Students misbehave by being noisy and dont listen to the teacher while she talk so they have group
points for that and smiley faces.
Misconceptions
Some students may think powder is liquid because you can pour it like water and it take the shape of
the bottles just like the water so T will give them reasons why it is a solid.

Personal focus for this lesson (Based on your previous observed lesson, identify one or two aspects
that need improving. Eg. be more animated, monitor children more closely, provide more challenging
tasks etc)
In this Lesson I am focusing on:
1- Students using lesson vocabulary more often during the class.
2- Using smiley faces stickers rewards
3- Students working together without arguing.
4- Avoiding grammar mistakes.

Matter

Anything that takes up space is matter

Liquid

takes the shape of its container and takes up a

definite amount of space

Solid

Gas

water vapor

has a definite shape and takes

up a definite amount of space

has no definite shape and

takes up no definite amount
of space

is a gas phase of water. It

produced from the
evaporation or boiling of liquid
water or from the sublimation
of ice.

Examples of students language:

-

Ss: It is a liquid because it take the shape of the bottle.

Ss: powder is solid.

Teacher language (list language used by you, the teacher, eg. questions, instructions and
explanations)
In the each section of the plan it introduce the questions and the language of this lesson.

Planning Stages Within the 5-E Inquiry Model

Engage
PURPOSE:

To excite students for the new topic which is matter.

To identify their prior knowledge of the unit.

To engage their interest of the new unit.

Key Question:
What changes happen to our body when we exercise?
Opening activity to surface student thinking:
A. Ss will guess the title of the lesson using pictures and guessing the letters through hangman
game
Directed
Picture in the board
Onluine Hangman game code: hqmcaibhelea
Ss will guess the title based on pictures and letter which they will guess

b. T will explain what is a matter and students will guess how to identify it based on pictures.
Directed
Smart board laptop - PowerPoint
Ss will listen to the teacher and based on the pictures.

Opening activity to engage student interest and/or clarify context of the investigations:
Pictures and online hangman game will help students to engage with the new topic which is matter and
explanation will help students to combine between what they know and new information.
Questions for whole group discussion:
What can you see? Suggest some letters?
Teacher (What will the teacher do)
