From the Principals Desk

Dear Parents/Guardians of Oak
Springs Scholars,
The school year is moving along
quickly, I would like to first take this
opportunity to wish each of you and
your families a most happy, healthy
holiday season! I hope that you will
have a chance to relax and carve out
special times to spend with your
child(ren). The first part of the year,
scholars worked diligently to reach
academic goals, worked as a team,
modeled citizenship and demonstrate
self-control. I want to thank you for
supporting campus and district
expectations such as, scheduling
doctors appointments after the school
day, sending your child(ren) in the
appropriate dress code attire, and to
school on time daily.
During your time together as family,
encourage your child to write letters

and read their favorite books to you

and family members. Your continued
support will enhance your childs
academic successes as they enjoy the
holiday season.
There are some important dates to
mark the calendar for this month:
Winter Break Friday, December 19,
2014. Classes will resume on Monday,
January 5, 2015.
Thank you for trusting the Oak Springs
staff with your most valuable treasures,
your children!Enjoy your time off and I
will look forward to seeing everyone in
2015!
If you have any questions please
contact your childs professor,
supportive staff or administration and
we will be happy to address those
questions or concerns.

LIBRARY
Prof Frost
The past couple of months have been busy and
successful! Scholars received a free book to keep,
during the Reading is Fundamental (RIF) program in
October. Many of you visited the Scholastic
Bookfair in November and purchased books for
your children. Thank you for your support! Having
books at home that are interesting to scholars
encourages enjoyment of reading and increases
their reading level!
Literacy week was also a success. Thank you for
showing your children how much fun reading can
be!
Looking ahead, we will have another RIF event on
January 22nd and 23rd. We will also celebrate the
scholars who have read, and completed a book
report, on five of the Bluebonnet books. This is for
third, fourth and fifth grade scholars and will take
place at the end of January.
Keep reading with your children and enjoy your
winter break!

Winter Wellness Tips - Preventing the Flu and
Colds
Wash your hands frequently: Your hands are the
primary mechanism for transporting germs from
surfaces
Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth: This
helps to reduce your risk of contracting infectious
germs by limiting their access to the primary
pathways into the body the nose, mouth, ears,
and eyes.
Cover your coughs and sneezes: Colds and flu are
highly infectious because their germs can travel
through the air.
Avoid close contact with people who are sick:
When you are sick, keep your distance from
others to protect them from getting sick.
Prevention is best: exercise, nutrition, and sleep:
When your body is well-rested, has proper
nutrition, and is in good physical shape, it is better
able to fight off intruders/infections and resist
getting sick!

The Pennies for Patients Campaign raised $772.02!

Pebble Project will be out in lateJanuary to see 2nd
and 4th grade to talk to them about how to protect
themselves against bullying, strangers and
unwanted touch.

Remember our Fever Policy: Students must fever

free, without use of fever reducing medication, for
24 hours before returning to school. DO NOT
give medication in the morning and send child to
school. Child may still be ill, even if the
temperature is down because of medication.
