I have conducted a meeting with my father Mr.

Fuad Mohammed; he works in the

Business industry, in Citi Bank at the position of a vice president of Citi Islamic
Investment Bank. Fuad is Bahraini at the age of 46. The meeting was conducted on
the 1st of November, at his office in Citi bank.
Several questions were asked during the interview:
Describe your job generally?
- Managing the Islamic money market disk at Citi Islamic Investment.
- Secretary of the Board of Directors and the Sharia Board.
- Arranging the quarterly meetings held by the above two board.
- Work as a Team Leader.
- Solve problems.
Provide three reasons why you like your job, and 3 reasons of why you
dont like it?
Three reasons of why I like it:
1- Its a challenging job that gets out the best of me, as I am constantly
giving instructions to my employees, solving problems and facing new
challenges every single day.
2- High communication and interaction with numerous professional clients
from all around the world, therefore, there is no routine and my job gets
interesting when I have to work with people from different cultures.
3- Good salary amount, being a father with a family of six members, I made
a decision of living a decent life style, therefore I worked very hard to get
into this position that provides me with a decent amount of salary to
cover all of our needs.
Three reasons of why I dont like it:
1- Long working hours, which consumes my social and family valuable time, and
my comfort; as when I'm conducting the quarterly meeting for instance, I
have to fly to Dubai and be there for one full week drowned in work and
arrangement plans, which leaves me exhausted.
2- A lot of stress; as I am the vice president; I am responsible of numerous
things that happen in my work environment and this rise up the stress level
in my Dailey life. For instance; I am dealing with millions and billions of
dollars every single day, therefore, any mistake even if it was small, will lead
to a catastrophe in the Bank, thats why I have to be focused all the time.
3- A lot of traveling, as stated above in point 1, this consumes my valuable
family and social life, and it causes a lot of stress as I am the main speaker of
my whole department at the bank.

 As a professional employee, what do you think about your company

(Citibank)?
It's one of the most solid and respectable international firm, where there is a
lot of interaction with high levels of senior officers globally which makes the
company connected, open and fresh for new events and ideas constantly.
Additionally, the most admirable thing that Citibank does; is that we are all
required to comply with both the international standards on top of the local
ones; and this increases our knowledge and keeps us learning new and
valuable information constantly.

As a citizen, what do you think of the industry that Citibank is involved in,
(Business Industry)?
Its considered to be as one of the most booming industry, everyone who is
involved in it have learnt and developed numerous skills and qualities. The
best thing about the Business industry is that you are always connected and
communicated with the whole world and the other businesses.
What are the required competencies that this job requires from you?
- Big knowledge in international market and global events.
- Communication skills.
- Problem solving.
- Presentation skills.
- Team work, because for instance, you will be leading a lot of employees
under you; therefore you have to know how to deal and communicate
with them professionally.
Did you develop new skills and competences while working in that
position?
Regarding that I have been working at Citibank for 25 years now, I have
developed numerous skills and competencies throw-out my life, such as team
working. For instance, I have never been comfortable while working with
other people before I was in the Vice President position, however, once I got
to that position I started to improve and develop my team working skills
while working with my colleagues, and after few months I was voted for best
employee of the month by my colleagues who thought that I was highly
supportive and compassionate with them.

 What do you recommend me to do in order to get a similar job as yours?

The most integral quality that you must have if you want to reach this
position is Confidence. You will not achieve anything without your
confidence; you should also get some useful degrees from business schools,
get some experience, be aware of what's happening in the business world
constantly and be a team player.
Analysis:
I have done a primary research at the beginning when I interviewed Mr. Fuad,
additionally I have conducted a secondary research when I searched for information
of the position from online sources; trying to find a clear explanation about the job's
required competencies in my chosen industry. However, when I compared my
researches from the interview and the other source findings, I found that they are
significantly different. Regarding that the interview findings were extremely valuable
and useful that included a lot of detail, examples and good advices details with
efficient illustration of the job's good and bad sides. But in my independent online
search, it was extremely hard to find any useful information about the exact position
in the industry, and when I found this site (Scholastic, 2010), there were no sufficient
examples, details or recommendations that will help me achieve my ambition, there
was just a general explanation of what the job is and How you can do it. But no
information about how hard it is, what does it require from you to have
(experiences, qualifications) or even what is the nature of the position and the
industry. All of those usful information were only provided in my Primary research
(conducted Interview) with my father.

Conclusion:
Regarding my qualifications, I am now finishing my Marketing Business degree at Bahrain
Polytechnic, this qualification will give me the sufficient experience and information needed
to start my journey to reach a Vice President position in any Company, however, several
seminars about business life and Bank should be taken in future to explore and be open
more to the business world. Regarding my life experiences, I am a confidant person, I solve
problems, get the job done and I am a team worker; this qualities will assist me to reach my
desired position, as its full with challenges and dealing with global customers. However
regarding my experiences, I have to work in several first-level positions to gain general
experience and develop my skills and competencies, in order to be a respectable and decent
Vice President in the future.
