Outline
- Hazards
- Safety Controls
- Inspection (unsafe
conditions/acts)
Crane Types:
A. Industrial Cranes: Overhead,
Gantry, & Jib
B. Construction Cranes: Mobile,
Tower, Derricks, &Lattice boom
Hazards:
-
Safety Awareness: lifting operations training for all personnel (training records)
Frequent inspection and proper maintenance for all lifting equipment (records up to date)
Weather & wind speed: if winds reach between 20 to 25 mph or greater, the lifting
operations should stop
Safe slinging/rigging: e.g. no damaged slings, no short ends with knots, and need to
protect from sharp edges of load, cracks, deformation, broken strands, and safe
buckles/shackles, and no horizontal loading
Lifting gear: accessory free from any defects
Safe load (SWL): the load is correctly slung, balanced & secured load to prevent any
swinging, keep it as low as possible with unclear its path of travel, no allowed standing or
working within the load, and maintain load under SWL of the crane or alike
Safety barricading for caution area: provide barriers for lifting area with warring signs and
notices
Proper rigging: hooks with safety latches, and proper rigging tools should be attached.
Size: using steady/ tag line on all long / large loads
Weight: no overloading
Electrocution protection: safe overhead clearance and grounding.
PPE: boots, helmets, gloves, and Hi Vis
Lifting plan: load charts posted
Safe walkways: e.g. providing safe clearance for swing radius and away from pedestrians.
Adequate lighting provided
Emergency Preparedness:
-
Emergency procedures.
Trained first aider (bleeding and fractures).
