MYP ASSESSMENT TASK SHEET!

"
"
Unit Title

Energy

Significant
Concepts

Structure -- What is energy?"

Systems -- Forms of energy?"
Relationships -- Energy transfer - How the transfer of energy
relates to our lives?
We cannot create energy; we can only transform energy already
present in our environment.

How do we utilise this present energy that is all around us and

use it to improve our world?

Teacher Task Overview

What do you
have to do?

For the next few classes you will be responsible for taking notes on the
different forms of energy listed below. You should have enough
information on each form of energy to be able to convert this
information into a Keynote presentation. I will use both your Google
Doc and your Keynote for grading. You will also need to include a
labeled diagram/or an image of each form of energy - these images
need to be relevant and labeled or captioned. The forms of energy:

2.
3.
4.
5.
6.
7.
8.

Potential Energy - Elastic and Gravitational

Kinetic Energy
Heat Energy
Light Energy
Sound Energy
Chemical Energy
Electrical Energy
Nuclear Energy

How will you You will be assessed on Criteria D in this task. Please see the
be assessed? attached rubrics for more details.
When is the
task due?

"

Assigned on: 7th January 2014

Due on: Wednesday late February (Date to be advised).

"

Energy Research Directions

"

For each of the 8 forms of energy named please provide the following
information:

"

Definition
What is this form of energy
Function
How do we use these different forms of energy?
Source
What are its source/s?

"

Following is the sequence of slides required

Slide 1 - Title Slide (must include your name and class)

"
Slide 2 - What is energy
"
Slide 3 - Potential energy (include both elastic and gravitational)
"
Slide 4 - Kinetic
"
Slide 5 - Heat
"
Slide 6 - Light
"
Slide 7 - Sound
"
Slide 8 - Chemical
"
Slide 9 - Nuclear
"
Slide 10 - Electrical
"
Slide 11-16 - Sources of electrical energy (one page for each source)
"
Slide 17 - Energy Transfer (What is it?)
"
Slide 18-22 - Examples of energy transfer (include energy transfer
diagrams & explain how energy transfer affects our lives)

"
Slide 23 - Wasted energy
"

Slide 24-25 - Concluding comments (Apply your understanding of energy,

its sources and uses to predict where we will be sourcing our energy from in
the future and how this will effect our lives.)
Slide 26 - Bibliography

You need to also present your research notes. These notes are:
to be typed into a Google doc.
to be in your own words
to include your references that will be presented in your bibliographical
slide (same format as previous assignments)

You will need to build your keynote presentation during class time.
We will have opportunities for discussions, videos and research during
class time though you will be researching for homework.
It is important that you complete at least three, half hour blocks of
research, at home per week.
Your topic of research for homework will be written on the whiteboard in
the Homework section. It is your responsibility to note down the topics
under research.
You should note down each new topic for research at the beginning of
the time allocated for research during lessons.
I will be checking your progress via your Google doc. and your keynotes
during class.
