According to Douglas Gross in Virtual reality will put you in the movies big film industries are
beginning to explore virtual realities as the new frontier for technological innovations. (Gross) supports his
idea of technological advances by pointing out that big companies such as HBO are partnering with major
Virtual Reality corporations like Oculus to make the ultimate gaming experience possible. These
companies are also working on changing the way we watch movies forever. The article expresses the
technological changes that could come in the near future. For example, Oculus CEO Brendan Iribe says "At
some point, VR is going to eliminate the need to go to a physical place and see a big screen; It can be even
richer than the IMAX experience in a theater, because it can be 360 and all around you. (Gross) believes
that a change as big as this one is not going to be seen overnight, but thinks that it could definitely happen;
he also believes that the virtual reality will make the audience feel more a part of the movie theyre
watching. Furthermore, (Gross) believes in taking one step at a time he says that Oculus and Sony
Morpheus (virtual reality programs) arent on the shelves yet and until this happens we will not know how
consumers like the virtual experience. Ultimately (Gross) is an optimist when it comes to the new virtual
technologies and shows a lot of support for these new planned advances. He seems very interested in seeing
these ideas come to life in the future.
While researching these articles on virtual realities I noticed that using various search engines helped
optimize my results. The two search engines I used included Bing and Yahoo. Bing offers a limited amount
of information on the search topics requested. Using Bing for research was very time consuming and a
tedious task. At first Bing continued to offer irrelevant results, Compared to yahoo which offered accurate
results. For example, while using Bing I noticed that most of the results I received did not seem credible.
Most of these results were written by bloggers sharing their opinions instead of sharing valid facts about the
topic at hand. On Yahoo, I noticed the results I received were written by news companies such as CNN,
Zdnet, The New York Times, and USA Today. One of the main differences I noticed between these two
search engines was that when using Yahoo I noticed that I received a lot of results just by using the
keyword search. Bing on the other hand, gave me limited results using key words and most of the results
did not pertain to the topic.
This section contains an evaluation of one of the four articles on virtual reality. The article I choose to
assess is called Oculus VR founder on the key to virtual reality's success: People are narcissists. This is a
current article written in 2015 on January 7th at 5:04pm. This authors article has a great relevance to the
topic at hand. This article answered all of my most important questions because it thoroughly discussed
how virtual reality will become the future of the gaming and movie industry. The Author, Samuel Gibbs
works in London as a Technology Reporter for the Guardian. Samuel has accumulated over six years of
experience in technology and consumer electronics journalism. His credentials include Contributing Editor
of TUAW. He also worked as a Technology editor for PixelatedGeek.com, Felix, and Imperial College
London student newspaper. Samuels contributions also include News Editor of Download Squad and
Gizmodo UK. I believe that the information I have read in Oculus VR founder on the key to virtual reality's
success: 'People are narcissists' is trustworthy for many reasons. First off, the author of the article has a
long and credible background in virtual technologies and demonstrates common knowledge on the topics
discussed. Another reason I would consider this article trustworthy is because not only is the article written
to inform the readers it includes direct quotes from other well known sources. Other than quotes, he has
published work on many other trustworthy sites that have been proven credible such as TechRadar.com. To
me trustworthy articles are classified as an article that are not theoretical and do not focus on the opinions
of the author. Although the author at some points in the article attempts to pitch or sell his idea, he still
managed to support his statements with a quality amount of valid facts.
In my research I found two similar scholarly articles about virtual reality in the movies. To find both
articles on the selected topic, I typed in the following keywords:

virtual reality
virtual reality in movies
virtual realities will put you in the movies
emerging technologies

I chose to use ProQuest Central database for my research because it is a reputable source. It offers help pages
with suggestions to improve the quality of results. Its database provides a variety of information which makes it
perfect for general research. When acquiring the necessary information using Proquest has been the most successful.
I believe Proquest is the best database to use because its quick navigation makes it efficient, and produces the best
results in a timely manner. I would recommend Proquest to other students because it generates more relevant results
for your desired search topic, and provides users with an easy to use interface.
While researching this topic, I was able to acquire information from internet and journal articles. In doing this is
I found that the internet articles allowed me to access the information faster and with ease. Although the journal
articles supplied the same amount of information I noticed that finding individual answers to the necessary questions
were harder to locate and not formatted for easy access. Between the two formats I found that the journal articles
became more time consuming, and the internet articles gave me double the information in half the time. The two
main internet articles I used to find my information included Oculus VR founder on the key to virtual reality's
success: 'People are narcissists By: Samuel Gibbs ,and Virtual reality will put you in the movies By: Doug Gross .
Both of these articles were written by two authors with extensive backgrounds in technology and both have
partnered with big named companies like CNN. The two journal articles that I used to obtain my information were If
You Like Immersion, You'll Love This Reality By: Manjoo, Farhad and BIRTH OF A SIMULATION NATION
By: Cohen, David S. These articles provided me with quality information, but I often noticed that both focused more
on the opinions of the authors than on the facts. Both authors have good educations, but neither have an extensive
background in technology. The authors have experience in writing opinionated journal articles concerning
technology, but neither worked within or studied technology. Although I enjoyed reading all of the articles I still
believe that the internet articles provided me with the information I needed in a much easier way than the journal
articles.
