A Long History of Diversity:

In a paragraph, explain how the early history [prior to 1000 AD] was highly

diversified.
China and Asia influenced Southeast Asia, China ruled the northern Vietnam.
Hinduism and Buddhism spread throughout India influencing the religion in Southeast Asia.

How was the area of Southeast Asia organized and governed during their early

history?
It was separated by Mandalas, which states that were organized of rings of power
changed around a central court. The regions powers sometimes overlapped with another
region, so they would have to work out an alliance.

How did this change from 1300-1800?


The region became more complex and very larger than before. And each nation

began to gain their own nations identities.


Colonialism and its aftermath

What is colonialism?
It is when groups of people were sent out to trade with other nations.

What was the only country in the region that wasnt a colony?
The only country in the region that wasnt a colony was Thailand.

Identify and explain the three ways colonialism changed Southeast Asia.
One way is that it set up routes and regulations for Southeast Asia. Also Europeans

were forced colonies to produce things that would help the economy. And lastly it led to a
spark of nationalization.

The Philippians were the closest locations to the European colonies. The Dutch had

access to both the Indian and Pacific Ocean colonies.

reasons so they can benefit from it.

Japan put Southeast Asia in leadership role to gain valuable experience which was

Southeast Asia mostly gained their independence peacefully. Although, Indonesia
had to fight for their independence.
An Uneven Economy

Southeast Asia has a traditional economy. Explain that statement with specific

examples to back it up.


They mostly depend on agriculture like growing rice. And in Myanmar is dependent
on the trees in the forest for the wood.

What is ASEAN? How has it helped to create a region within a region?


A ASEAN is called the Association of Southeast Asian Nations. It is an alliance

that promotes economic growth and peace in the region. It helped because different
resources are located in different regions which help the manufacturing.
A Rich Mosaic of Culture

How is this area a mosaic of religions? Identify the different religions and where

they are practiced.


It has various different religions. Buddhism is very widespread in Southeast Asia,
Philippines are mostly Catholics, Indonesia and Brunei is mostly Muslims.

There are more urban communities in this area.

It shows that there are two common diversities in Malaysia in the photo.

food, clothing, and shelters that they only need.

good fertile soil. It is put in with sugar, banana, cocoa and coffee.

Taro-tropical Asian plant that has a starchy root. It is eaten boiled, or made into

bread, pudding or pasta.

People are beginning to migrate for education or jobs to Oceania.

Islands?
They have better communication around with other countries, unifying the
scattered islands.

Because of migrations in Oceania it is bringing other languages to their nations

making it more diverse.

How has modern technology both helped and harmed Oceania?


It is helping their economy grow but hurting them because they dont know how to

use it as well as become familiar with it.
