4.2.3.C: Identify plants and animals that live in lakes, ponds, streams, and wetlands.
I. Performance Objectives (Learning Outcomes):
A. The third grade students will categorize animals into their appropriate
category by placing them in the correct box in the worksheet.
B. The third grade students will name the animals correctly by saying the name
of the animal pictured on the PowerPoint.

A. Prerequisite skills
1. The students should know what a wetland is.
2. The students should know the location of a wetland.
B. Key Vocabulary
1. Habitat- living and nonliving things in an ecosystem
2. Insects- small invertebrate animal with several pairs of legs
3. Amphibians- cold blooded vertebrate animal, live in water then land
4. Mammals- warm blooded vertebrate animal
5. Reptiles- scaly cold blooded vertebrate animal, lives on land

1. What Animals are Located in a Wetland

IV. Implementation
A. Introduction
1. The teacher will read the book Jump, Frog, Jump! to the class.
2. Throughout the book, the teacher will ask the students about the
animals in the book and where they live.
B. Development
1. The teacher will talk about and define the different types of animals.
(mammals, reptiles, amphibians, fish, insects and birds.)
2. The teacher will provide examples of each type.
3. The teacher will show the PowerPoint presentation of animals in
wetlands. (See attached)
4. The teacher will first show the picture of the animal and ask the
name.
5. After the students respond, the teacher will show the correct name on
the slide.
6. The teacher will ask the students what type of animal they think the
picture is of.
7. After the students respond, the teacher will show the correct answer.
8. The teacher will repeat steps 4-7 for each animal picture.
9. After completing the PowerPoint activity, the teacher will have the
students work in groups of four to complete a matching worksheet.

C. Closure
1. The teacher will go over the answers from the worksheet.
2. The teacher will ask the students what habitat they think they will
talk about next. Tell the students it is in the area where they live.

D. Accommodations/Differentiation
1. Z.B. has mild spastic cerebral palsy. He has poor motor control
which causes writing difficulty. To accommodate for these needs he
will not have to write on the group worksheet but instead participate
verbally with the group discussion. Z.B. also has difficulty with
movement of his muscles and can get fatigued easily so he may stay
in his seat during the activity.
E. Assessment/Evaluation Plan
1. Formative

a. The teacher will ask each student a question during the


PowerPoint activity and take note of if their responses were
correct or incorrect.

a. There is no summative assessment for this lesson.
