PSC enables airlines to come together to agree on standards and
procedures for passenger and baggage handling, passenger
reservations and passenger ticketing matters among others.
Agreements reached at the Passenger Services Conference take the
form of Resolutions or Recommended Practices. Resolutions are
implemented on an industry-wide basis. PSC also provides a forum for
the discussion of new developments in the airline industry and the
development of policies and procedures to meet these changes.

PFPC develops and maintains standards and procedures related to
interline ticket forms and procedures. The committee is responsible for
the development of standards for electronic tickets and other electronic
documents and procedures. Airline membership consists of experts
responsible for the development of ticket forms and ticketing
procedures.

RESCOM is responsible for Resolutions and Recommended Practices
related to passenger reservations procedures. It also develops
recommendations for amendments to the ATA/IATA AIRIMP manual.
Since the airline reservations process has always been highly
automated, automation issues represent a significant portion of the
work of this committee. Also, as Computer Reservations Systems
(CRSs) became more and more involved in the airline business, these
companies have become heavily involved in the development of
standards and procedures.
RESCOM oversees the IATA Reservations Services Manual. This is a
field reference document which describes the standards and
procedures necessary for interline reservations. It also includes
electronic commerce implementation guides for electronic ticketing,
smart card and electronic reservation services providers. Airline
membership consists of passenger reservations experts, their
counterparts from CRS suppliers and other members of IATAs
Strategic Partnerships.

PADIS approves and maintains Electronic Data Interchange (EDI)
message standards for airline passenger travel and for airline related
passenger service activity. Membership of the PADIS Board consists
of airline industry experts from IATA member airlines, ATA member
airlines and members of the Strategic Partnerships.

The IATA Ground Handling Council (IGHC) reports to the Airport
Services Committee. It is the principle forum of organisations involved
in world-wide airline ground handling services. The IGHC brings
together IATA and non-IATA airlines, independent ground handling
companies, airports, participants in the IATA Strategic Partnerships
and other parties. The IGHC meets on an annual basis usually in May.
At this meeting more than 650 executives meet to discuss issues of
mutual concern and of special interest to the ground handling
community. The trade show, seminar and working groups held in
conjunction with the annual meeting provide an ideal opportunity to
meet new business contacts, maintain and establish new ones and
learn about the latest products and services available to the ground
handling industry.

The Travel Partners Standards Council (TPSC) develops standards for
use by surface operators including surface transportation and
accommodation documents issued through the airline distribution
systems. These standards are published in the IATA Travel Partners
Standards Council Manual.

AIRPORT SERVICES COMMITTEE (ASC)

The Airport Services Committee develops and maintains the standards
and procedures necessary for the handling of passengers and
baggage at airports including all forms and regulations. It is also
responsible for IATAs Tutorial Ground Handling Standards, published
separately in the IATA Airport Handling Manual.
The ASC provides overall policy direction and general management for
all of IATAs airport services activities including the financial
performance of its products and services. Airport standards and
procedures are published in the IATA Airport Handling Manual. The
ASC is also active in the development of industry procedures for
passenger and baggage security, departure control and message
standards.
Airline membership consists of multi-disciplinary experts specialising in
passenger and baggage service, departure control systems (DCS),
and many ground handling activities.

The Schedules Information Standards Committee (SISC) meets prior to
the Schedules Conferences twice yearly. SISC is responsible for the
Standard Schedules Information Manual (SSIM), which contains standard
formats for the exchange of airline schedules data and for the request of
departure and arrival slots by airlines from airport coordinators. SISC is
attended by member airlines and Strategic Partnerships members.

The CUSSWG has been created, as a joint ATA/IATA body, to


develop an industry standard for the common use self service
kiosk, platform and software architecture. The Group will liaise with
other industry groups as appropriate, including the Airport Services
Committee (ASC). CUSSMG will co-operate with the Airports
Council International (ACI) as required. The objective of the group
is:

passenger contact information in a timely manner.

To define and agree a specification for an industry standard


interface which acts between airline systems and a Common Use
Self Service (CUSS) system
To define and agree a specification for an industry CUSS system
To agree a process/procedure for managing the ongoing support
and development of the required data interface (middleware) to
ensure it meets all the participating entities requirements (e.g.
airline, airport, ground handling company, data service provider)
To agree on minimum operational standards for CUSS for
use by suppliers.

The PCIWG develops guidelines for the collection of accurate

The BSISG develops and maintains data Interchange
specifications for the exchange of passenger ticketing and related
data between BSP business partners. Meetings are open to
airlines and Strategic Partners who provide agent reporting data
(RET) to a BSP.

The Load Control Working Group (LCWG) shall:

Reviews the IATA Baggage Messages contained in Recommended


Practice 1745.

Consist of representatives from ATA/IATA carriers and participants in


the IATA Partnership Programme with an interest in load control data
Review and develop recommendations (in the form of amended or new
Recommended Practices) to the Airport Services Committee (ASC) on
load control
Review, update and correct problems that relate to the use of EDP
Exchange for Semi-permanent data for check-in and load control
Review existing AHM050 and Chapter 5 of the Airport Handling Manual
Submit proposals for updates in order to cover the latest industry
requirements by the development of standards and achieve effectiveness
of the related AHMs to satisfy the requirements of the latest generation
EDP weight and balance programmes.

The Aviation Ground Services Working Group reports to the IATA
Ground Handling Council. It is responsible for the Aviation Ground
Services Agreement (SGHA) which forms a "model" contract for
the provision of ground handling services. This document is used

hundreds of times each year as the basis for almost all of the
ground handling agreements between carriers and ground
handling companies. The Members of the AGSA/WG are highly
seasoned managers representing IATA carriers and ground
handling companies. The agreement is changed every five years
and the working group meets on a regular basis each year in
preparation for this change. As part of its work programme, the
working programme liaises with other industry activities e.g. IATA
Legal Advisory Committee and Risk and Insurance Managers
Panel. Changes to the SGHA must be approved by the full IATA
Ground Handling Council and IATA Airport Services Committee.

Application development sub-groups under the direction of the


PADIS Board develop the functional business requirements for the
