RAFT Task Card: US History

Objective:
You will be able to describe the purpose and effect of the Emancipation Proclamation.
Student Role:
You will create a video reenacting the events surrounding the creation of the Emancipation
Proclamation document.
Audience:
The Confederate States.
Format:
An informative video reenactment.
Topic:
You are Abraham Lincoln and you are going to go through the stages of creating, signing, and
enforcing the Emancipation Proclamation.
Directions:
1. Visit the following sites, in addition to your textbook, to learn an in-depth understanding
of how the Emancipation Proclamation came to be, who it affected, and the effects this
document had on the Civil War:

2. After researching the events surrounding the Emancipation Proclamation develop a script
to reenact the events that occurred at that time. Be sure to type your script so everyone in
the reenactment can read it.
3. Incorporate cast members who will participate in your reenactment.
4. Rehearse lines and reenactment with cast members so you will be able to make the
necessary changes or adjustments before making the video.
5. Record the reenactment with a video capable device such as a video camera, cell phone,
Tablet, etc. The video assignment must be at least 10 minutes long but no longer than 15
minutes

Upload your video to YouTube at https://www.youtube.com/ . Be sure to change the


setting to public in order for you to present the video of the reenactment in class.

You will create a documentary slide show on the events surrounding the creation of the
Emancipation Proclamation document.

Directions:
1. Visit the following sites, in addition to your textbook, to learn an in-depth understanding
of how the Emancipation Proclamation came to be, who it affected, and the effects this
document had on the Civil War:

2. After researching the events surrounding the Emancipation Proclamation create a 10 to
15 slide show presentation that can be used as a documentary. Be sure to include a voice
over commentary and specific facts and details about the event.
3. Your slides need to include additional two other forms of media such as animation, video
or sound clips, etc.
4. You should also include 4 to 5 images depicting the events leading up to, during, and
after the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation. Be sure to include speaker notes with
citations and references.
5. Make sure you have created your PowerPoint presentation before adding the voice over.
You may want to practice going over each slide several times to ensure your narrative
flows with your presentation.

4. You should prepare a rough draft to ensure that you have included all the elements
necessary for your speech.
5. Practice your final copy over several times to ensure that you have the proper flow while
giving your speech. You may also want to practice in front of friends and family to have a
better understanding of how it will feel speaking in front of an audience.
