Climate change
In the world today, the threat of climate change is the looming behind any and all energy
production methods.
In the energy industry, the burning of fossil fuels contributes most to the increasing levels of
carbon dioxide in the atmosphere.
Renewable energy, or a source other than fossil fuels, is the way to combat the rising levels of
CO2 in the atmosphere
The common goal is to prevent, if possible, further climate change by decreasing CO 2
emissions.
Many think solar and wind are the solution in evading carbon dioxide emissions.
Timing
The nuclear era has been going on for about 40 years
now
It takes between 10 and 19 years to put up a nuclear
power plant from planning to operation.
Wind takes about two to five years on average, same as
concentrated solar and photovoltaics.
Safety
1. In the longer term, the estimates of radiation-related
cancer deaths range widely from 15 to 1,500 people
2. Some studies have linked CO2, emissions and global
warming to as many as 150,000 deaths worldwide
every year.
Nuclear Decline
1. Economic concerns have
restrained growth in the
nuclear industry since the
mid-1970s
2. Some might point the lack
of nuclear power to the
fears of nuclear holocaust
and the cold war
Nuclear Warfare
1. The process that generates nuclear energy is different
than the process that creates nuclear warheads
2. In fact, some warheads contain nuclear material that
can be harvested upon dismantling and used to
generate more energy.
3. Radiation is the real fear. But if the energy industry
closely monitors nuclear energy, then it will be safe.
Conclusion
The facts have been laid out. The technological
advancements of the modern day necessitate
nuclear power. Lets get with the times and use
what works.
