POS 1.8.c.2 sort words into categories

Students have prior experience with these word study letters from the weeks
before. Students will use their prior experiences to guess where to sort the words
that start with B M S or R. Students can use their word study journal to link where
the words go under which letters.
Active Learning
*Students will be given a REVIEW word sort that they have never seen before which
are words that start with the letters B M S or R
When directions are all given, students will be let go and asked to sort the words
given to them. Students will:
1. Cut sort
2. Write B R M S at top of page
3. Sort words
4. Glue words
5. Raise hand so teacher can check it
6. Check red folder/get book basket/ do any unfinished work
Students will use multiple supplies for this activity such as glue, scissors, word
study notebook, and pencils. After students sort and glue in the words then
students will get to finish unfinished work or read silently to themselves.
Assessment: Teacher will be walking around and listening to students language.
Teacher will also be checking the students sorts to make sure they understand the
concept and check their work. Student will only be able to move on once the sort is
done correctly.
Reflect
Teacher will ask the student to read back the words of the sort in order to make sure
that students know which words go under each letter of the sort. Teacher will make
notes of students who do not sort correctly. Also, students refer back to the
classroom sort. Students are told that there are words that start with the letters B M
S and R everywhere! Students are told to look out for words and things in their
environmentat home and at schoolthat start with the letters B M R and S.
