While completing the learning styles assessment I found myself agreeing the with
learning style results. I scored a 3 on the active/reflective learning style which means I am
balanced between the two. Then I scored a 7 on the sensing/intuitive learning style leaning more
towards the sensing side. I then scored a 3 on the visual/verbal learning style, meaning I am
balanced between both. Finally, I scored a 3 on the sequential/global learning also meaning I am
balanced between these two as well. I already knew that I was a very versatile learner and this
proved my thoughts to be correct. Depending on the type of activity that I am participating in or
type of project will decide on how I learn best from the situation. When I read the section in the
book discussing what it means to be on the sensing side of the sensing-intuitive style, I agreed
with the assessment of myself for this. The textbook states that people at the sensing end prefer
factual information and often enjoy detailed material. They typically tend to prefer predictable,
replicable means of analysis and application. Often meticulous and reliable, sensing learners may
reflect excellent common sense and can easily remember facts, figures, routines, and
protocols. This explains exactly how I am. I greatly rely on routines when it comes to my life as
well as learning abilities; I also am very good with numbers and protocols. For me this
assessment was very accurate of my learning skills that I use on a daily basis.
The next assessment I completed was the self-assessment of social work knowledge
survey. Using this assessment I have found that I have a general understanding for most of social
work. I did find myself on the lower end of the scale when it comes to community and
organizations. This did not surprise me any since I mainly have been concentrating on
interpersonal social work. I think that I would feel more comfortable with community and
organizations if I was doing more with this area of social work, but I currently not. I am interning

in a foster adoption agency, where I am doing mainly interpersonal practice with the caseworker
I follow.
In this internship I am doing home visits where I am meeting with the individual alone,
then with the family as a whole, and sometimes just with the family and not the child. I find that
I am more comfortable with individuals, families, or small groups. I also noticed that I find
myself more knowledgeable with things such as mental and behavioral disorders, Diagnostic and
Statistical Manual, intervention process, and counseling. I feel that this may be because of my
background in psychology as well as the many things I have learned from the human behavior
and social environment class. This assessment was an eye opener for me. I realized that I should
also learn more about things that I am not as familiar with such as community and organizations
and how to deal with them as a social worker. By doing this, I will increase my knowledge about
how to work with these groups and make myself more aware and comfortable if I am put in the
situation.
