As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby: (1 Peter 2:2) Spiritual growth begins with an understanding of the Bible. The Lord Jesus Christ demonstrated for us the proper respect and view of the Bible that we need to have. Find Matthew 4:4 and fill in the blanks: But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not __ __ __ __ by bread alone, but by every __ __ __ __ that proceedeth out of the mouth of God. Here we learn that the Bible proceedeth out of the mouth of God. This means that God is the author of the Bible. The message and even the very words originate from God Himself. The Bible is not the product of human discovery or invention. It is a supernatural book which came from God. (See also Psalms 12:67; 2 Timothy 3:16). Find Mark 7:13 and fill in the blanks: Making the __ __ __ __ of __ __ __ of none effect through your tradition, which ye have delivered: and many such like things do ye. In this verse Jesus rebuked the Pharisees and the Scribes (these were some of the religious leaders of their day) because they elevated their traditions above the Bible. Notice here Jesus calls the Bible The Word of God. Since we are sinful creatures of habit, we may find traditions, doctrinal beliefs, practices or even habits that are contrary to the Bible. Therefore we must be ready with the help of God to change or even stop them in order to demonstrate in our lives that Gods Word is more important than our own sentiments. Find Luke 24:27 and fill in the blanks:
And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto
them in all the __ __ __ __ __ __ __ __ __ __ the things concerning himself. The phrase Moses and all the prophets is a phrase used to denote the Old Testament. Notice here that Jesus calls the Bible Scriptures. The word scriptures means writings, referring to the written Word of God. Basically God gave us His Word and put it in writing for us so that we can read it for ourselves. Find John 17:17 and fill in the blanks: Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is __ __ __ __ __. Jesus clearly teaches us that Gods Word, or The Bible, is truth. Whatever the Bible teaches, it always teaches the truth. No other book could tell us all about God, Heaven, Hell, Angels, the Devil, or the Church etc. except the Bible. You can trust Gods Word to always be true. Find Matthew 24:35 and fill in the blanks: Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my __ __ __ __ __ shall __ __ __ pass away. Also look up John 10:35 and fill in the blanks: If he called them gods, unto whom the word of God came, and the scripture __ __ __ __ __ __ be __ __ __ __ __ __; Both Matthew 24:35 and the last section of John 10:35 teaches us that the Bible will always be available and that it cannot be in error.
If we accept the teachings of Jesus Christ, then we must accept
the Bible as Gods Word. It is either Christ and the whole Bible or no Christ and no Bible. There are many helpful books which can explain the Bible as Gods Word, but ultimately this step must be taken by faith. Go back to the Old Testament, find Proverbs 30:5 and fill in the blank for this verse: Every __ __ __ __ of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him.
