Ontario's New Diamond Industry

Synopsis: The economic benefits in the discovery of diamonds in the Canadian north
are tremendous. However, there is a voice missing in this article. The community
leaders and, members of these communities perspectives are not heard. Do they
agree with the mining plans and, are they being consulted? What effects will this
have on their traditional lands and way of life? Or is this new development exactly
what this community needs for employment, and training in their communities in
the long run? This is a complicated issue and, this article looks at the numbers
solely and, the human factor is missing in this story. The discovery of diamonds is a
great boost for our Canadian economy but, all Canadians must benefit from this
development, not just the top one percent of our population.
